Tien Lung, Jimmy Wang Yu, is the top fighter at the Ching Te martial arts school, a center of local influence that also controls key town industries like clothes-dyeing and brick production. One evening, a restaurant visit with friends spirals into violence as the Hook Gang, a ruthless rival tied to opium trade and prostitution and led by Master Chao’s faction, tries to muscle in on their territory. In a brisk, decisive clash, Tien Lung and his comrades rout the Hook Gang not just in the restaurant but in a later, wider confrontation in the valley, signaling the Ching Te school’s dominance and the gang’s weakness.
The Hook Gang retreat to their ally, Chao, and spin a lie to inflame the situation: Tien Lung disrespected them. The fabrication enrages Chao, who marches to the Ching Te dojo to challenge Hang Tui, the Ching Te master. Hang Tui, Ma Chi, quickly defeats Chao, exposing the extent of Chao’s humiliation and setting the stage for a brutal and personal reckoning.
Chao refuses to accept defeat and orchestrates a broader vendetta by recruiting mercenary martial artists from Shanghai. The hired group is a colorful and dangerous mix: two karate experts and their teacher, a Judo master, a Taekwondo specialist, two Thai boxing fighters, a Yoga master, and two mystic Tibetan lamas. The lamas, later revealed to be students of an Imperial Assassin, provide a sinister backdrop to the mounting threat against the Ching Te school. Among the new foes, the Judo master Kao Chiao, Ng Tung-Kiu, stands out, along with the Thai fighters led by two formidable figures, the Thai Bronze Foot Mi Su, Blackie Ko Shou-Liang, and the Thai Iron Foot Ni Tsai, Kwan Hung. The group’s arrival signals the fall of the Ching Te dojo and the downfall of its enterprises, leaving only Tien Lung alive after Chao’s assault, and costing him the loss of his right arm to a ruthless display by Chao’s Japanese professional.
Escaping the massacre, Tien Lung finds refuge with Jade and her father, a medicine expert who helps nurse him back to health. Though physically scarred, he is emotionally shattered by the loss of his arm and the destruction of his school and way of life. He clings to a growing resolve for revenge, and Jade and her father reveal a possible path forward: an elixir that can strengthen the arm and empower a fighter even with a missing limb. The catch is brutal—to activate the elixir, Tien Lung must destroy the nerves in his remaining arm by singeing it over an open flame. He undertakes the painful procedure, and though the scars remain, his strength surges, and his control sharpens to a new level, enabling him to unleash power previously beyond reach.
With renewed vigor, Tien Lung returns to pursue vengeance against the Hook Gang. He begins by eliminating two of its professional fighters, then orchestrates a public challenge by ordering the Hook Gang’s school to relay a message to Master Chao to meet him at the quarry for a final confrontation. Master Chao arrives accompanied by the mercenaries, but Tien Lung’s enhanced abilities and disciplined training prove too much. He defeats Chao and his hired professionals, but the most grueling test remains as he faces Chao’s Japanese professional in a lengthy duel. In the end, Tien Lung emerges victorious, sealing his revenge and cementing his transformation from a wounded survivor to a formidable avenger who can bend the rules of pain and power to his will.
As the dust settles, the town’s balance of power shifts again, with the Ching Te school’s legacy reinforced by Tien Lung’s iron-willed comeback. The tale blends street-level rivalry, martial arts spectacle, and a protagonist’s rebirth through severe testing, leaving a lasting impression of resilience, discipline, and retribution in a landscape where honor and survival are earned through unwavering resolve.
