On a sunlit Florida highway, Herschell Steve Hawkes, a Vietnam veteran, rides his motorbike and stops to help a young religious girl named Angel Heather Hughes whose car has broken down. She invites him to her home, where her sister Anne Dana Cullivan and a circle of friends are gathered, many of them smoking pot. Angel warns Herschell not to partake, but Anne presses the seduction, and Angel decides that Herschell should stay with them until he can get back on his feet. While the group gathers by the pool, Anne tempts Herschell to smoke a joint; he relents and finds himself drawn into the drug scene.

Herschell then takes a job at a local turkey farm, where two scientists are running experiments with chemicals on turkey meat. They bribe him with more marijuana to participate in the testing, and after consuming the entire turkey, he collapses and suffers a seizure. The scientists, frightened of possible exposure, dump his body in the woods. But Herschell is not dead—he awakens to discover he now has a giant turkey's head in place of his own head. His addiction has mutated into a craving for the blood of other addicts.

He seeks help from Anne, who initially agrees to assist. However, as Herschell's compulsions escalate and he kills three people to feed his habit, Anne enlists two friends to stop him by beheading him with a machete. Just as the violence peaks, the memory shifts: the turkey-headed sequence was a hallucinatory vision, and Herschell awakens again in the woods. The farm's owner finds him and calls Angel, who volunteers at a rehab center. Angel arrives to collect Herschell and takes him to the center to begin recovery, urging him to pray to God for strength. In the end, Herschell is reunited with a relieved Anne, signaling a fragile chance at renewal.

Throughout the film, director Brad Grinter Brad F. Grinter periodically offers his own tongue-in-cheek commentary on the events.
