Blood Feast

A woman returns home to her sunlit Miami Beach apartment only to learn about a fresh murder in Rogers Park, and soon she is found dead in the bath with a severed leg bagged nearby. The crime scene hints at a brutal pattern: the killer mutilates victims by removing limbs and organs, a signature that unsettles the police. The next morning, Detective Pete Thornton, William Kerwin, sits down with the chief of the homicide bureau to compare notes, and they begin to see a troubling connection between the killings and a chilling ritualistic obsession. In a parallel thread, Dorothy Fremont hires a caterer named Fuad Ramses, Fuad Ramses, to plan an elaborate dinner for her daughter, Suzette. Ramses, the man behind the masquerade, keeps a private shrine to the ancient goddess Ishtar in a back room and hatches a plan to use his guests as part of a grisly “blood feast.” He aims to resurrect Ishtar through a ritual that blends blood and body parts into his macabre menu.

As Thornton digs deeper, he learns the latest victim belonged to a book club, and the trail of clues grows colder and more disturbing. Meanwhile, on a nearby beach, Tony and Marcy cross paths with danger when Ramses strikes—Tony is knocked unconscious, and Marcy has her brain removed in a brutal, clinical act. The arriving detectives confront Tony, who is left shaken and barely able to relay anything useful. Marcy’s mother later reveals that Marcy was an active book-club member, a detail that seems trivial but may be a key breadcrumb in the killer’s pattern. The menace continues at a motel, where Ramses robs another victim of her tongue and proves his willingness to push boundaries further in his sick, ritual-driven “blood feast.”

The city’s mood shifts when Suzette Fremont, Connie Mason, attends an Egyptian studies lecture with her boyfriend, Thornton. Dr. Flanders, the lecturer, recounts the power and danger of Ramses I and Ramses II, and explains an Ishtar cult that revered sacrificing women and turning their body parts into dishes to symbolize rebirth. After the talk, Suzette and Thornton are drawn into a new lead when they hear that a patient from the hospital described her attacker in a way that echoed the word Etar—a clue that fuses Ramses’s book with the ritualistic motive behind the crimes.

Ramses’s machinations reach a new high when he abducts Trudy Sanders, Trudy Sanders and drags her into his back room. There, he drums up fear and ritualistic power, scourging Trudy as he collects her blood in a silver chalice. Suzette warns Thornton that Ramses plans to stage a genuine Egyptian feast at her own dinner party, promising an authentic experience that would tie Ishtar’s myth to living flesh. Cunningly, Thornton traces the link between the killer’s identity and his book, Ancient Weird Religious Rites, and realizes Ramses is the author who kept a potential-victim list in plain sight.

The pursuit crescendos when investigators raid Ramses’s store and uncover an Ishtar shrine, Trudy’s body, and other grim remains. The police rush to the Fremont residence to halt the guests before they partake in the feast; the clock ticks as Ramses arrives at the dinner party and urges Suzette to help make the ritual more “authentic.” Mrs. Fremont unexpectedly interrupts the plan, forcing Ramses to flee. A frantic chase ends with Ramses leaping into the back of a garbage truck, where the unwitting driver powers the mechanism and crushes him. Thornton explains how the case hinged on recognizing the killer’s connection to his own book and the victims he had cataloged as potential targets. The story closes with one final, haunting image: the Ishtar statue shedding tears of blood, a chilling reminder of the cultish terror that unraveled in the city.
