Bionicle: Mask of Light

The Great Spirit Mata Nui creates the island and its masked Matoran inhabitants. Mata Nui is driven into a deep coma by his envious brother Makuta, who begins a reign of terror over the land. The island's balance is thrown into chaos as threats loom in the darkness.

Six Toa rise to confront Makuta and liberate the island from his terror. They ally with the Matoran and Turaga, beginning a rebuilding effort across the elemental regions. Their victory marks the turning point that allows the island to begin healing.

From the fire village of Ta-Koro, Jaller and Takua discover a Great Kanohi, a Mask imbued with elemental power. Takua is rescued from a lava wave by the Fire Toa Tahu, forging a bond between the Matoran and the Toa. The Mask's power becomes a beacon guiding future events.

The Kohlii match reveals tensions among the Toa and Matoran alike. At the end, the Mask is accidentally revealed, and the Turaga sense its powers. They declare that it heralds the arrival of a seventh Toa, the Toa of Light.

Guided by the Mask's power, Jaller and Takua are sent to find the Seventh Toa, believed to be heralded by Jaller. The quest sends them across the island as Makuta learns of the Mask’s presence. The prophecy drives a larger, perilous journey.

Makuta dispatches three Rahkshi to retrieve the Mask, and they invade Ta-Koro, leaving destruction in their wake. Tahu is poisoned during the assault, causing his behavior to grow erratic and straining his relationship with Gali. The threat of Makuta tightens its grip on the island.

On the journey toward Onu-Koro, Jaller and Takua gain aid from the Air Toa Lewa and the Ice Toa Kopaka. Kopaka temporarily immobilizes the Rahkshi by trapping them in a frozen lake, buying the travelers time to move forward. Takua begins to realize Makuta's looming threat more directly.

Takua wanders away and is confronted by Makuta, who threatens to kill Jaller and the island's inhabitants unless Takua delivers the Mask. Takua abandons Jaller to shield him, triggering further danger as three more Rahkshi attack Onu-Koro. Tahu, Kopaka, Lewa, and Gali rush to help the Earth Toa Onua and Stone Toa Pohatu, but Tahu grows increasingly erratic.

Realizing the Rahkshi are after them, Takua decides to rejoin Jaller. Gali and the other Toa purge the Rahkshi poison from Tahu, leading to his reconciliation with Gali and the Toa. Their renewed unity strengthens their resolve to face Makuta.

Arriving at Kini Nui, the great temple at the island's center, the Toa confront all six Rahkshi. The Toa mount a united offensive and defeat five of them, but the surviving Rahkshi attacks Takua. Jaller sacrifices himself to protect Takua, and Takua dons the Mask of Light, transforming into Takanuva, the Toa of Light.

Takanuva constructs a Kraata-powered craft to reach Makuta's lair beneath Mata Nui. A Kohlii contest is held to decide the island's fate, binding the Toa, Turaga, and Matoran in a shared resolve. Takanuva presses onward, determined to end Makuta's threat.

In Makuta's lair, Takanuva's willpower becomes dominant and he merges with Makuta to form a single powerful being. The merged entity raises a gate deeper beneath the island, allowing the gathered people to flee to safety. The Turaga awaken Mata Nui using the Mask of Light, reviving Takanuva in the process, and the group discovers the long-dormant Metru Nui city.
