In the peaceful kingdom of Axeholme lives the teenage boy Simon, son of Wulfrik, the king’s court wizard. The evil sorcerer Shurka begins a coup, aided by the king’s wife, killing the king and imprisoning the princess Aura. Before Shurka can finish him, Wulfrik teleports Simon and his friend Gulfax to safety and entrusts him with a powerful magic ring. But, unbeknownst to all, Simon loses the ring during the escape.
Determined to restore his homeland, Simon teams up with the fearless Kor to free Axeholme and rescue the princess. After narrowly dodging one of Shurka’s insectoid creatures, they set up camp for the night. Seeking help to defeat the evil wizard, Simon calls up long-dead legendary warriors from their resting place, using his powers to summon them back to life; they briefly rise, only to attack him before sinking back into the graves.
On the road to the castle, Kor is captured by cyclopes to be wed against his will or eaten, but he is rescued by Simon. The next day, at a waterfall, they see a drowning woman. Kor attempts a rescue and discovers she is a Naiad, the river’s guardian. Their test of heroism is passed, and they press on toward the castle.
Meanwhile, Shurka has imprisoned the queen, seized the throne, and hypnotized the princess into becoming his bride. Returning to the castle after exile, the duo frees a group of townsfolk from prison, sparking a large battle on the streets and towers outside. Simon, having retrieved the ring, faces Shurka in a climactic duel of white and black magic atop the battlements, where Shurka is slain. Simon and Aura are crowned the new King and Queen of Axeholme, as Kor sets off in search of more adventures.
