In the climax of the film, Lydia, with the help of Betelgeuse, manages to locate her daughter Astrid in the afterlife, where she was tricked by the malicious spirit Jeremy into trading her life for his. Betelgeuse uses his magic and cunning to rescue Astrid by throwing Jeremy into the eternal flames of Hell, preventing him from causing further harm. During their escape, Lydia and Astrid are aided by the spirit of Richard, Lydia’s late husband, who has been working as a staff member in the afterlife, allowing him to communicate with the living. This reunion provides Astrid closure regarding her father’s death, and she finally comes to terms with his loss, leading to reconciliation with Lydia and healing their strained relationship.

Meanwhile, Delores, Betelgeuse’s vengeful ex-wife, has risen from the dead, reassembling herself in the afterlife and wreaking havoc by killing spirits to take their souls in her quest for revenge against Betelgeuse. She crashes Lydia’s wedding and goes after Betelgeuse, but ultimately, Astrid finds a way to summon a sandworm from Saturn’s moon, similar to the first film. The sandworm devours Delores and Rory, her accomplice, ending their threat, and likely trapping their spirits in the afterlife.

In the final moments, Betelgeuse, eager to leave the afterlife, attempts to marry Lydia, offering her freedom in exchange for his own escape. Lydia refuses, pointing out that their deal was invalid because Betelgeuse had violated the rules of the afterlife to find her. She then utters his name three times, which banishes him back to the afterlife, leaving Lydia and her daughter safe. Afterward, the film hints that the ghosts of Charles and Delia, Lydia’s parents, have found peace and moved on, while the fate of the Maitlands remains unknown, with a hope that they will return in future installments. Overall, the movie ends with a sense of closure and the possibility for new adventures.
