May Ho, Sammi Cheng Sau-Man, inherits a vast fortune after her wealthy husband, Simon Yam as Ben, drowns in a Caribbean scuba-diving accident. May is a Stanford-educated professional who knows how to charm, but she also has a history of joking lies and half-claims that leave the truth unsettled. His mother and sister remain uneasy about her motives, especially since they felt she only knew him for seven days before the nuptials. Despite the sudden wealth, the house, and a stake in the family fashion company, May finds herself surrounded by a hollow glow of success that does little to fill the emptiness inside. The atmosphere around her grows tense as old suspicions and new stresses collide, and the loss casts a long shadow over her glamorous life. In the middle of this quiet storm, May’s loneliness deepens, and so does her sense that something essential is missing.

May’s grief spirals into a self-destructive binge. She indulges in food, drink, smoke, and endless television while stealing from her own company stores, trying to fill the void with noise and distraction. A drunken car ride ends in a near-fatal crash, and she crawls out of the wreck convinced she escaped unharmed—until she discovers the blood on the driver’s seat and realizes the danger may not be over. In the hospital, a revelation awaits: the left side of her face is heavily injured, and when she peers through the gauze, she discovers a new beginning—she can see ghosts with that eye. A ghostly presence appears at her side: Ken Wong, Sean Lau as Ken Wong / Sam Wong, who claims to have known her in school and to have died when he was thirteen in a typhoon at sea. He becomes her guide through a strange, shadow-filled world, and soon May senses a growing connection with him even as she yearns to glimpse the living husband she cannot reach.

As their nights and days bleed into each other, May and Ken drift through the realm of the supernatural, with May developing a real bond with her ghostly companion. Yet the strongest ache remains May’s desire to see her husband in the flesh, to feel a familiar presence against the backdrop of her fortified life. Ken makes a best-effort to help her realize this wish before he moves on to the afterlife, crossing the Twilight Junction to be reincarnated. At first the chance to reconnect seems within reach, but a different presence interrupts the moment: the ghostly figure of Whisky, her husband’s dog, appears and signals that the boundaries between life and death are more complicated than they seem. The unfolding events push May toward a difficult truth about love, memory, and letting go.

In a surprising turn, a restorer who works on May’s husband’s vintage car bears a striking resemblance to Ken, prompting May to reconsider what she has been seeing and who she has been with. The truth emerges in pieces: the ghost who has stood by May’s side all along is the memory of her dead husband in disguise, a protective gesture to keep her from becoming too attached and to urge her to move forward. The revelation reframes their entire journey, suggesting that Ken’s presence was less a romantic tether and more a guardian force that helped her cope with loss. The realization that Ken is not merely a visitor but a memory made flesh changes how May understands love, attachment, and the possibility of a real future.

After this revelation, May’s ability to see ghosts fades as the need to hold onto a spectral presence diminishes. The film closes with a quiet sense of possibility: even as May steps away from the supernatural, there remains a hint of a future romance between May and the figure who has watched over her, suggesting healing is possible and that new chapters can begin, with hope lingering at the edge of what she has learned to call love.
