Set 36 years in the future, Lydia Deetz is now the host of a supernatural talk show titled Ghost House. During a segment for her show, she begins to have unsettling visions of Beetlejuice lurking in the audience. Meanwhile, Lydia’s stepmother breaks the news of her father, Charles, having passed away while they are on their way to a riverside funeral service.

Following the service, the remaining members of the Deetz family pick up Lydia’s daughter, Astrid, from boarding school. Lydia has been navigating life since her divorce from Richard two years prior to his mysterious disappearance. After the funeral, Rory proposes to Lydia, prompting Astrid to rush to see her friend Jeremy before the wedding celebrations begin.

As Halloween approaches, Astrid discovers that Jeremy is actually a ghost. He asks for her help to restore his life, promising that he can help her reunite with her long-lost father. Together, they recite an incantation from the Handbook for the Recently Deceased, which transports them to the afterlife. There, Lydia uncovers the dark truth about Jeremy’s past, involving the murder of his parents, and realizes that Astrid is in significant danger. Out of desperation, Lydia brings back Beetlejuice to aid her in rescuing Astrid and ensuring her safety.

In a tense encounter, Lydia demands Jeremy return Astrid, but he proposes a deal: he wants Astrid’s hand in marriage in exchange for her safe return. Agreeing to his terms, Lydia aids him in transitioning into the real world while escaping the clutches of his ex-wife haunting him. Meanwhile, Astrid heads towards the afterlife train station, where she tries to catch the soul train that would transport her to the beyond, but Lydia and Beetlejuice show up just in time to intervene. Astrid then uses the incantation to swap places with Jeremy, allowing him to reclaim his life.

On the train, Astrid spots Richard working as an employee at the station, and as Lydia rushes to help her daughter, they find themselves unexpectedly transported to one of Saturn’s moons through an emergency exit. There, they face the terrifying presence of a Sandworm, but Richard saves them and brings them back to the winter river. Yet, as Jeremy attempts to cross over into the living world, Beetlejuice appears and sends him to hell, helping Delia return to the living realm, albeit under unfortunate circumstances.

The narrative culminates at the church, where Rory is awaiting Lydia at the altar. However, drama unfolds as Beetlejuice and Delia crash the ceremony, leading to a chaotic reveal: Rory admits under a truth serum that his intentions towards Lydia are solely financial. Enraged, Lydia retaliates by punching Rory, knocking him out cold. Just when Beetlejuice is about to marry Lydia, Dolores arrives to confront him. With a clever maneuver using the handbook, Astrid summons the Sandworm to the church. Although this plan initially goes awry, it ultimately results in both Dolores and Rory being consumed.

The wedding is halted after Lydia and Astrid expose Beetlejuice’s breach of contract and handbook rules. In a surprising twist, Beetlejuice inflates and explodes in a dramatic display. Lydia and Astrid then reassure Delia of their love for her as she prepares to cross over, reuniting with what remains of Charles, before boarding the soul train to the afterlife.

In the aftermath, Lydia films the final segment of her beloved show, deciding to retire it in order to dedicate more quality time to Astrid. The duo travels to Transylvania, where Astrid becomes enamored with an employee named Vlad, leading to a wedding between the two. Despite this happiness, Lydia is haunted by nightmares of Beetlejuice, one of which involves a vision of Astrid giving birth to his child, waking her in a panic.
