Two siblings, Cristian Quintanilla (Cristian Valencia) and his sister July (Clara Moraleda), run a web show focused on paranormal investigations and urban legends. When an invitation arrives to spend Easter at the family’s summer home, they see it as a chance to chase a long-running legend on camera: Melinda, a girl who disappeared in 1940 and is said to haunt the wooded grounds around the house. The siblings arrive with cameras ready, hoping the quiet of the holidays will give them enough time to explore without interruption.
The property sits with winding paths and a tense hush, but the hedge maze nearby seems to be the true stage for their investigation. Their father hints that their mother once knew the maze well in her youth, a fact that adds a layer of mystery to the place and foreshadows the family’s troubled history. With the cameras rolling, they begin to navigate the maze, turning its twists and turns into a night-by-night record of their quest to uncover the truth behind Melinda’s disappearance.
In the maze, they discover a well that seems to hold a deeper pull for the two siblings. Cristian leans over and calls Melinda’s name, a moment that July immediately warns him is disrespectful and risky. The tension in the air thickens, and the setting seems to respond to their rash curiosity. The next morning brings misfortune: their dog has vanished, and when Cristian and July finally locate him, he lies dead at the bottom of the same well, a chilling reminder that the legend may be closer to home than they thought.
That night, their mother storms into their room, shouting that their younger brother José is missing. The family heads to the maze in a frantic search, but the group becomes scattered. Cristian eventually finds July, but she is bound to the pillars of a small gazebo and bleeding. He helps her back toward the house, only to discover José’s burnt body in the fireplace—a grim discovery that compounds the fear already in the air. Strange sounds outside the house leave July hiding in a kitchen cupboard while Cristian heads to the front door. A brutal moment follows as an axe blade pushes ominously through the door, forcing Cristian to flee and seek refuge upstairs.
The following morning brings a stark, grim atmosphere to the kitchen. Cristian descends to find the cupboard where July hid now empty, and the room drenched in blood. He finds a basement room where an old video recorder is playing. The tape shows their mother being interviewed in a mental institution by doctors who discuss the possibility of schizophrenic episodes resurfacing during the night, especially in adolescent women, and how such episodes can reemerge with unsettling regularity. The doctors also reveal that Cristian and July once had a baby sister named Michelle, and that their mother suffered a psychotic break following postpartum depression, a fact that ties the family’s tragedy to a broader medical context. The doctors mention a woman named Elvira as a focus of their mother’s blame during those dark times.
As Cristian watches the troubling tape, a terrifying moment unfolds: their mother enters from behind and kills him with an axe. The horror of the scene is compounded by the implication that the danger around the house is rooted in family trauma as much as in any supernatural force. Five days later, the police uncover the bodies of the Quintanilla family and recover the video footage that Cristian and July filmed, leaving the full story of what happened to unfold in the minds of viewers as the film closes.
