All Fall Down

Berry-Berry Willart leads a hedonistic, roving life, seducing women of various ages. When they become attached to him, his charm turns sadistic and he often ends up in jail for battery. His life on the road keeps him distant from his family.

Berry-Berry is jailed for battery after a brutal assault on a woman. His family must deal with the fallout, including bail arrangements in Florida that involve his relatives.

Echo O'Brien, a 31-year-old staying with the Willarts, is introduced to the family. She has recently endured the suicide of her longtime boyfriend, and Clinton is drawn to her.

At a family backyard cookout, Echo meets Berry-Berry and there is an immediate mutual attraction. They leave together to be alone, changing the mood of the gathering.

Berry-Berry asks Clinton for permission to be with Echo, acknowledging Echo saw Clinton first. Clinton tells him to treat her nicely and implies he won’t stand in the way.

From then on, Berry-Berry and Echo are constantly in each other's company, moving through the house and town together. Their connection deepens as they spend more time alone.

Echo reveals she is pregnant after an evening out. She says she does not expect anything from him and that she took a gamble that he would love her, not marry, and she lost. Clinton overhears the entire exchange.

Echo decides she must leave the Willarts' house and loves driving at night. A state trooper later reports that Echo's car went off the road and crashed, and she is killed.

Ralph tells Annabel and Clinton that Echo's crash was not an accident and implies Berry-Berry's involvement. In the wake of the accusation, Clinton throws Berry-Berry's framed portrait to the floor and stomps on it.

Clinton sneaks into the shack where Berry-Berry has been living, retrieves the pistol his brother had shown him earlier, and waits behind a curtain for Berry-Berry to return.

Berry-Berry returns and collapses sobbing onto the bed, having learned of Echo. Clinton quietly puts the pistol back, then leaves, seeing his brother as someone to pity rather than emulate.

Amid the sorrow, Annabel clings to Berry-Berry, shrieking that she will always love him no matter what has happened. The family remains entangled in the complex web of love and guilt.
