In the bustling backdrop of New York City, Sebastian Valmont, played by Ryan Phillippe, is a wealthy teen renowned for his charm and manipulative prowess, effortlessly ensnaring women in his web of seduction. However, he’s grown weary of the repetitive game and sets out on a new quest to find someone worthy who can challenge his skills. His gaze lands on Annette Hargrove, portrayed by Reese Witherspoon, the principled daughter of the headmaster at his new school, who has openly stated that she desires nothing less than true love.

Alongside him is his equally cunning stepsister Kathryn Merteuil, played by Sarah Michelle Gellar, who also has her own agenda. When Sebastian proposes a bet—if he fails to seduce Annette, Kathryn will take his treasured vintage Jaguar XK140, but if he succeeds, she will finally yield to his desires—the stakes are raised. Meanwhile, Kathryn seeks revenge against her ex-boyfriend Court Reynolds, who has moved on with the innocent Cecile Caldwell. To enact her plan, Kathryn manipulates Sebastien into leading Cecile to fall for Ronald Clifford, a kind-hearted music teacher.

Sebastian initially struggles with his mission as Annette has been forewarned of his notorious reputation. He suspects that football player Greg is behind the rumors and blackmails him to clear his name in Annette’s eyes.
