Roger Dearly, portrayed by Jeff Daniels, is a talented video game designer living in London with his beloved pet dalmatian, Pongo. One day, while out for a walk, Pongo catches sight of a stunning female dalmatian named Perdy. This leads to a playful chase through the bustling streets of London, ultimately revealing that Perdy has taken a liking to Pongo. When Roger and Perdy’s owner, fashion designer Anita Campbell-Green, played by Joely Richardson, cross paths in St. James Park, sparks fly and romance blossoms between these two couples—both human and canine—culminating in a wedding celebration.
Anita, who works at the prestigious House of de Vil, is under the watchful eye of her boss, the notorious Cruella de Vil, depicted with flair by Glenn Close. Cruella, a woman with a penchant for cigarettes and a fierce obsession with fur, quickly becomes intrigued by Anita’s design of a coat fashioned from spotted fur inspired by her own dalmatian. However, Cruella’s enthusiasm takes a sinister turn as she plots to create garments made from actual Dalmatians. Upon discovering that Perdy has given birth to a litter of 15 adorable puppies, Cruella proposes a handsome sum for the pups, but Roger and Anita stand firm in their refusal.
In a fit of rage, Cruella dismisses Anita from her job, vowing to enact revenge. She employs her bumbling henchmen, Jasper and Horace, to kidnap the puppies and whisk them away to her ominous estate, De Vil Mansion. Meanwhile, the clever puppies enlist the aid of other dogs and animals scattered throughout London to outsmart Jasper and Horace, leading to their daring escape to a friendly farm where their parents are waiting.
However, their freedom is short-lived as Cruella soon pursues them. Her plans backfire spectacularly when she finds herself hilariously thwarted—first by being overwhelmed by a pig and then dumped into a vat of molasses, all thanks to some meddling raccoons. Ultimately, the resourceful Dalmatians are rescued by the Metropolitan Police Service, who apprehend Cruella and her inept henchmen. As a culmination of their adventure, Roger and Anita adopt the additional Dalmatians that Cruella had stolen, proudly expanding their family to a whopping 101. In a fitting finale, Roger crafts a successful video game featuring dalmatian puppies as the heroes and a villainous Cruella, paving the way for a fresh start as the family relocates to the serene English countryside, now enjoying their newfound wealth.
