It’s Cinco de Mayo, and the charming mice are throwing their very own carnival, mirroring the festive spirit of human celebrations. Amongst the excitement, Speedy Gonzales engages in a solo game of ping-pong, captivating the attention of other mice who gossip about him being involved with everyone’s sister in a romantic way.
However, this joyous celebration takes a sharp turn when Señor Vulturo spots the carnival and devises a plan to feast on some mouse burgers. The moment his shadow looms menacingly overhead, chaos erupts as the mice scatter in fear, shouting warnings like “El Bandito Bird!” and “El Vulturo!” Responding to the tumult, Speedy gallantly strides over to investigate the disturbance. Upon hearing the frightened mice explain that Vulturo threatens to ruin their fun, Speedy confidently assures them that he will take care of the situation, stating he will fix Señor Vulturo, “but good.”
Just as the tension escalates, a mouse yells for help, revealing that Vulturo has already targeted his first victim. Speedy springing into action replaces the distressed mouse with a firecracker under his sombrero. When Vulturo discovers the switch, he inadvertently ignites the firecracker, resulting in a painful burn to his foot. In a frantic attempt to extinguish the flames, he plunges into a nearby rain barrel, while the rescued mouse escapes and praises Speedy profusely for his heroic rescue.
Assuring the grateful mouse that his actions were no trouble, Speedy turns his attention back to Vulturo, only to find him scrambling out of the rain barrel. Seizing the moment to taunt Vulturo, Speedy playfully dances and sings as he cleverly evades Vulturo’s attempts to catch him. As Speedy dives back to his mouse hole, Vulturo launches into a belly-slide to capture him, but instead crashes into Speedy’s entrance and flattens his beak. With a quick adjustment, Speedy restores Vulturo’s beak before making another swift exit, prompting Vulturo to chase him once again.
Noticing that Vulturo is hot on his heels, Speedy quips about whether Vulturo is indeed following him, while Vulturo feigns innocence. The chase leads them to a railroad crossing, where Speedy, seeing a train approach, warns Vulturo. In an unfortunate turn, Vulturo is unable to stop in time and ends up colliding with the train. After the dust settles, Speedy approaches, brushing Vulturo off and chastising him to pay attention before crossing the tracks. He returns the tail feathers that Vulturo had lost during the calamity, providing a momentary reprieve before his pursuer is hit yet again by a sidecar, causing Vulturo to sulk in frustration.
Speedy eventually finds himself at a rock outcropping outside the town, instinctively sensing he’s being watched. In a twist of fate, Vulturo has taken position on a nearby cliff with a massive cannon, ready to blast Speedy. Quick-witted as ever, Speedy dodges during the critical moment and sends Vulturo directly into the cannon’s line of fire, resulting in an explosive mishap that blows Vulturo’s beak off. As Vulturo regains his composure, Speedy humorously returns the beak to its rightful place.
With playful banter, Speedy suggests that Vulturo, unable to catch him, may want to consider a much larger target: one particularly plump mouse he knows. Taking the bait, Vulturo follows Speedy back into town, where Speedy dives into his mouse hole just as Vulturo crashes into the wall, compromising his hat in a comedic episode. When Vulturo inquires about the ‘juicy mouse,’ Speedy concocts an elaborate ruse, claiming there’s no mouse, only chickens inside, even going so far as to imitate clucking sounds.
Unconvinced yet cunning, Vulturo devises a plot to lure Speedy out using a makeshift toy connected to explosives. He delicately creates a trap, adding volatile nitroglycerin to ensure a big bang. After sneaking back to Speedy’s hole, he strategically places the toy and knocks to attract Speedy’s attention, successfully drawing him out. However, Speedy is clever enough to recognize the ruse and pretends to be confused, ultimately leveraging the toy against Vulturo. As their game unfolds, Speedy drops the ball into the trap, unleashing a chaotic explosion that leaves Vulturo featherless, yet ironically humbled.
Fully realizing that he’s met his match, Vulturo begrudgingly waves the white flag, surrendering to Speedy. The celebration resumes, with Speedy taking the spotlight as the host of a new carnival game where participants toss balls at a target—none other than the disgruntled Vulturo. Although Vulturo insists that the balls don’t bother him, his defeat is made evident as he humorously reveals himself as a dartboard in a separate game, each dart eliciting a yelp as they strike. The carnival continues with laughter, camaraderie, and the spirit of celebration restored, thanks to the bravery and quick thinking of Speedy Gonzales and the resilience of the spirited mice.
