Zone of the Dead

In 1986, a mass grave near Chernobyl is uncovered, resembling victims of a plague. A man cuts himself on a corpse's ribcage and dies minutes later from infection, but he rises again to attack the Chief of Bureau. The incident hints at a returning horror that will resurface years later.

Twenty years later, at a train station in Pancevo, a deadly biohazard is released when three drunken soldiers harass a guard and rupture a tank. The infected spread the gas, turning the soldiers and the guard into zombies, while the professor escapes amid the chaos. The outbreak sets the stage for the broader crisis that follows.

INTERPOL agents Mina Milieus, Mortimer 'Morty' Reyes, and Inspector Dra Belic are assigned to transport a prisoner from Serbia to Belgrade. The Chief of Bureau informs the President of the incident and urges containment rather than evacuation. The team prepares to move under strict orders as the situation deteriorates.

In Pancevo, young reporter Jan leaves a concert with his girlfriend Angela and her friend Jovana, unaware of the spreading infection. The professor struggles to escape the growing number of infected and encounters Armageddon, who vows to eradicate the zombies. The stage is set for a tense convergence of disparate survivors.

Two INTERPOL vans press into the chaos and are overwhelmed by zombies. They lose contact with Headquarters as signal fails and the squad is scattered. The Prisoner explains zombies' behavior, Petrovic is devoured, and Dra is bitten; the survivors take shelter in an abandoned police station.

Morty and Dra find the professor’s survivors and join them. Armageddon goes on a rampage through the city, wielding various weapons, and eventually enters a TV Station to broadcast his apocalyptic message. The uneasy alliance grows as the threat expands.

Morty powers up a generator to find a way out. Zombies break in, and the Prisoner saves Morty from a horde. Dra dies and reanimates, forcing Mina to shoot her former ally.

The group escapes toward a river through the train tunnels as sleeping zombies in the shipyards awaken. Morty leads the zombies away to buy time for the others to reach a boat. Jan seizes the boat and abandons Angela, who is left to be eaten.

Armageddon arrives, arming Mina and the Prisoner with weapons to fight back. The trio—Mina, the Prisoner, and Armageddon—kill the surrounding zombies while Morty escapes the train, grabbing a gun from the Prisoner to help them out.

The President announces that he will cooperate with NATO to bring those responsible for the bioweapon to justice. He also expects the Chief of Bureau to resign in response to the crisis. Mina allows the Prisoner to flee, and Morty congratulates her on making the difficult call.

Jan steers the boat upstream, but it runs out of gas. He searches a cabin for fuel, only to be tackled into the river by the infected captain, ending his pursuit.
