Young Thugs: Innocent Blood

Riichi, Yuji, Kotetsu, and Ryoko graduate from high school in Kishiwada. For one last prank, Ryoko lures a teacher behind a building with the offer of intercourse, and Riichi and Yuji topple a potted plant onto his head while Ryoko photographs the moment.

Ryoko lands a job at a hair salon and Kotetsu becomes a bartender. Riichi and Yuji begin working as gang enforcers, setting the stage for their rough adulthood.

Riichi begins sleeping with Nahomi, prompting Ryoko to retaliate. Ryoko has Masae cut her hair to shoulder length, and she assembles all of her photos of Riichi and herself into a garbage bag to burn.

Yuji gives the bag of photos to Riichi, who initially does not react but later burns them. Masae visits and yells at Riichi for making Ryoko cry, and she begins spending more time with Yuji, eventually becoming his girlfriend.

Riichi moves in with Nahomi, who begs him not to fight back against other gang members. He is attacked at an arcade and allows himself to be beaten and stuffed into a batting cage with baseballs fired at him. He returns home bloody and bruised, and Nahomi apologizes but asks him to wait for her while she is at work.

Riichi breaks up with Nahomi and moves back in with his mother. He visits Yuji and finds him with Masae, then spots Kotetsu driving a car borrowed from Isami, signaling shifting alliances in their circle.

Upset at his lack of progress in life, Riichi picks a fight with a group of eight youths, punching and kicking them until they flee. The incident underscores his restlessness and desire to prove himself.

Riichi, Yuji, and Kotetsu plan a road trip to the sea, and Riichi tries to improve his image by not fighting, even when challenged by his old rival Sada. Yuji's mother's surgery is successful and Isami lends Kotetsu a different car as they set out.

The trio is overtaken on the road by a fancy red car, and they attempt to race. Brakes and steering fail, nearly causing a crash with construction equipment. Yuji soils himself and, as he climbs out, grabs a metal stepladder just before it is struck by lightning, killing him.

Back in Kishiwada, Ryoko and Nahomi console Masae. Masae's only memento of Yuji is a protractor he found on the ground and used to find a perfect 67-degree angle. Tomoda, the protractor's original owner, asks for it back, but Masae offers to buy him hundreds more and Tomoda lets her keep it because the protractor is happier with Masae.

Riichi reveals that he did not burn the photo of Ryoko's teacher with dirt and a flower. After they part ways, Riichi tries to race back to Ryoko but she has already climbed to the roof of her building. A group of children below lose hold of a red balloon, and Ryoko leans over the railing, unable to grab it.

Riichi notices the summer festival season has begun again and charges at his old rival Sada with his fist raised. The scene ends with a sense of unresolved longing as Ryoko remains distant.
