Vikram Rai Bahadur and Sunita Sikkan meet during a vacation in Srinagar and instantly fall in love. They vow to never part till death at the temple where they first met, sealing their commitment. This moment sets the course for their future together.

Vikram's mother, Mrs. Sharda, opposes the match because Sunita is penniless. She pushes for a quiet temple wedding to protect the family business and social standing. The couple decides to proceed with a discreet ceremony on their own terms.

On the way to their temple wedding, a car crash shatters their plans. Vikram suffers a brain injury and falls into a coma, while Sunita survives but is badly disfigured. The tragedy abruptly ends their immediate future together.

Sharda convinces Sunita that Vikram cannot love her now, prompting Sunita to stay away. Sharda tells Vikram that Sunita died in the crash, effectively severing their bond. The mother's deception shapes Sunita's decision to assume a new life.

Sunita is transferred to a Delhi hospital where Dr. Mehra performs plastic surgery to reconstruct her disfigured face. She emerges unrecognizable, though not identical to the person Vikram remembered. She prepares to start anew under a different identity.

Sunita re-enters the world under a new name, Kusum Mehra, while visiting Vikram’s house and discovering he is engaged to Rita. Vikram does not recognize her. Kusum adopts the new identity as she begins life anew.

Vikram builds an orphanage in Sunita’s memory in Srinagar and raises funds by singing on stage. His performances demonstrate his continued devotion to their shared memory. The community witnesses his enduring commitment.

Kusum and Dr. Mehra attend one of Vikram’s charity shows, unaware that the performer is the man she once loved. When Vikram sings of love, Kusum counters with a rival song, still angry that he seems to have forgotten their bond. Vikram’s voice stirs something deep in him.

The next day, Vikram waits for Kusum in his car and offers her a lift, a moment that echoes their earlier near-fatal accident. En route, they face a crash that again leaves Kusum unconscious. The incident rekindles their fragile connection and sets up further revelations.

During a tense exchange, Kusum asks about a forehead injury and Vikram admits he too suffered an accident and forgot parts of his memory. This deepens their emotional strain as long-buried truths about the past begin to surface. Kusum, wanting to be seen, reveals everything she knows about the accident.

Dr. Mehra calls Sharda to explain that Sunita and Kusum are the same person, and that Kusum has found meaning only in Vikram’s enduring love. He suggests there is still time to reunite the lovers. Sharda's reaction hints at a possible shift in the plan.

Vikram questions whether Kusum is Sunita, and Sharda finally reveals the truth about Sunita’s survival and Kusum’s identity. The revelation shocks him but fuels his resolve to find Sunita again. The truth becomes the catalyst for their final act of reunion.

Driven by longing and the unveiled truth, Vikram travels to Kashmir in search of Sunita. He finds her outside her house and, moved, they hurry toward the temple where they first vowed their love.

At the temple where their love began, Vikram and Sunita–Kusum reunite and renew their vows. They embrace, signifying that their bond endures despite the years of separation and deception.
