Chandni, Isha Koppikar, grows up in a middle-class family in Bhopal, while Prem, Sonu Sood, is an unconventional ghazal singer from an upper-middle-class background. The two meet while practicing for a ghazal competition, and what begins as a shared passion soon blooms into love. Their families eventually meet, and there is a warm, hopeful sense that the two will join their lives together through marriage.

On the day of their engagement, tragedy strikes when Chandni’s father passes away, leaving her younger siblings suddenly dependent on her care. This shock forces Chandni to reassess her plans and the responsibilities that accompany love. At first, she contemplates leaving the children in the hands of her paternal uncle, but she soon discovers that the uncle and aunt care only about the house and not about her siblings’ well-being. Faced with a difficult choice, Chandni resolves to raise her brother and sister herself, even as Prem promises to stand by her side and support her through the mounting challenges. In the midst of these family upheavals, Prem’s own rising fame as a ghazal singer adds another layer to their shared journey.

To keep the family together, Chandni makes a personal sacrifice: she puts her dream of becoming a professional singer on hold, choosing instead to teach music from home and perform at parties and weddings to earn a livelihood. It is a steady, quiet struggle that tests her resilience and deepens her bond with Prem, who juggles the demands of a public career with his commitment to her and the siblings. As the years pass, Chandni’s siblings grow up—her brother graduates with flying colors and secures a good job—yet the weight of responsibility remains heavy on her shoulders. Her brother urges Chandni to step back, but she persists, encouraging him to marry his longtime girlfriend Natasha. Natasha’s arrival into the family life introduces new class dynamics and fears about whether they will adapt to their culture and lifestyle, but the marriage goes ahead, despite those concerns.

Believing that now Anuj B. Shrivastava, Vishal Malhotra, and Natasha will help shoulder the responsibilities of the ancestral house, Chandni and Prem decide to take the final step toward marriage themselves. Yet new trials loom on the horizon. Chandni faces fresh pressures when Natasha, the brother’s wife, refuses to conform to traditional expectations, demanding a more independent life that threatens to pull the family apart. Prem’s mother, a warm and aging presence who longs to see her son settled and content, urges Chandni to marry Prem or walk away for good. Chandni, who has already arranged for her brother and his wife to start a new life abroad, cannot abandon her sister. The emotional stakes rise as she contemplates sending her sister abroad for further studies, balancing duty to family with personal happiness.

Chandni’s student, now settled with his own family abroad, offers a lifeline by helping arrange his sister’s studies overseas, and his mother proposes a path that could lead to Chandni and Prem’s marriage. Chandni agrees and plans to undertake a pilgrimage after these arrangements, seeking spiritual clarity amid mounting responsibilities. Meanwhile, Anuj, feeling the squeeze of separation from his sisters, looks for a way to preserve family unity, and Natasha’s father plays a crucial role in guiding Natasha to recognize the importance of family bonds and shared duty. Anang Desai’s character adds gravity to these discussions, underscoring the weight of familial ties in the evolving narrative.

In the end, Natasha and Anuj return home from their younger sister’s marriage, marking a turning point for the larger family unit. Chandni, now freed from the most crushing burdens of caretaking, sees Prem return with his mother to finally bring Chandni into his home.
