White Sands

Deputy Ray Dolezal investigates the desert death of Bob Spencer and discovers a suitcase containing $500,000. The autopsy reveals a digested note with a phone number, drawing Dolezal into a precarious lead. Posing as Spencer, he calls the number and goes to a meeting, where he is robbed and instructed to meet Lennox at a restaurant.

FBI agent Greg Meeker intercepts Dolezal and explains that Spencer was an undercover operative. He urges Dolezal to keep posing as Spencer to recover the money or to help arrest Lennox, setting the course for the probe.

Dolezal meets Lennox and Lane Bodine and learns the money is meant to arm left-wing freedom fighters in South America. The arms dealers demonstrate the guns but demand an additional $250,000 to cover unforeseen expenses.

Meeker pushes responsibility onto Dolezal, who in turn uses his charm to court Lane, hoping she will attract humanitarian donors to fund the deal.

Two FBI internal affairs agents start to suspect that Dolezal killed Spencer and stole the money, adding pressure to his precarious cover.

Dolezal admits to Lane that he is not Spencer, and Lane accepts the ruse, agreeing to help raise the money instead.

Noreen, the former lover of Spencer, reveals that Spencer was involved with an FBI agent who likely killed him. Noreen flees at the sight of Meeker, and internal affairs agents grab Dolezal.

Lennox drives the internal affairs agents off the road; Dolezal flees back to Lane and discovers Noreen has been shot dead, along with a Polaroid of Spencer and Meeker.

Dolezal breaks into a surveillance van outside Lane's house and assaults the FBI agent, then confronts Meeker about the killings. Meeker admits he took the $500,000 without authorization to steal it and capture Lennox; he says Spencer wanted out.

Lennox reveals he is CIA and wants the arms deal to go through; he kills the two internal affairs agents and informs Dolezal that Lane is his hostage. Dolezal must locate the money and rendezvous with Lennox at a deserted military base in White Sands.

Dolezal locates the money in Lane's horse stall and kidnaps Meeker, taking him to White Sands and cuffing him to a pipe inside an abandoned building. He explains Lennox is CIA and that the FBI is closing in.

Lennox arrives and asks where the money is; Dolezal tells him the briefcase is in the abandoned building. Meeker shoots Lennox, disabling Lennox's car, and Dolezal then retrieves Lane and returns the $250,000 to her at her estate.

Before the FBI arrives, Meeker breaks the pipe he was cuffed to and runs with the briefcase. Dolezal had left the original $500,000 in Lennox's car to derail the investigation. Footprints lead the FBI toward White Sands, but Meeker stumbles and drops the briefcase, which contains only sand.

With the case resolved and Lennox dead, the FBI’s suspicions fall away. Dolezal drives home a free man, grateful to return to his family.
