Viduthalai: Part I

In the late 1980s, a remote corner of Tamil Nadu pulses with unrest, where a mining venture threatens a hill‑top village and the fragile balance between the state and its rural communities hangs by a thread. The government launches a secretive effort, codenamed Operation Ghosthunt, seeking to locate the elusive head of a separatist movement that has taken up arms in response to years of suffering. The atmosphere is heavy with mistrust, the landscape a mix of sun‑baked fields and shadowed forest that seem to keep their own secret histories.

​Kumaresan arrives on the scene as a freshly minted constable, assigned as a driver to a newly formed police batch known as E‑Company. Eager to prove himself yet guided by a deep‑seated instinct to help those in need, he quickly learns that the strict hierarchy and opaque directives of his new role often clash with the immediate realities of the villagers he encounters. His early days are marked by a growing awareness that following orders may sometimes mean turning a blind eye to the very people he set out to protect, planting the seeds of an internal struggle between duty and conscience.

The operation’s focal point is the hunt for ​Perumal Vaathiyar, the charismatic and enigmatic leader of the insurgent group.
