Martin, an immigrant from Mexico, has been running a restaurant with his partner Gomez for many years. Since losing his wife fifteen years ago, he has refrained from seeking another relationship, despite others urging him to. His life centers around his three very different daughters, with whom he cherishes family meals.

Carmen, the eldest, is attractive, holds an MBA, and is immersed in her career, often prioritizing it over her relationship with her boyfriend, Jeff. She even adapts her father’s recipes to prepare meals for him. Determined to be the first of the daughters to leave home, she struggles with her father’s desire for her to stay.

Maribel, the fun-loving middle daughter, is on the brink of starting college, while Leticia, the youngest, works as a chemistry teacher. Leticia is quite serious and has distanced herself from the Catholic Church, finding little interest in romance since her last relationship ended a decade ago.

One family dinner sees Maribel arriving late after meeting a boy named Andy outside a record store. Notably, Andy is an immigrant from Brazil with German and Italian roots, and he speaks multiple languages. It’s during this dinner that Carmen announces her plans to move out into a condo. Meanwhile, Yolanda, a divorced mother, shows up with her daughter April needing a babysitter.

Complications arise when Martin is suddenly called to handle an emergency at the restaurant, as one of Gomez’s catered dishes has been ruined. He provides guidance to the staff on how to salvage the meal, showcasing his dedication to the restaurant.

Yolanda introduces Martin to her attractive mother, Hortensia, who embraces life with vibrant clothing and a playful spirit. The dynamics shift as there appears to be a budding romance between Martin and Hortensia.

Amid these developments, Carmen evaluates Antonio’s decision to purchase a company. Although he seems uninterested in her insights, he recognizes her talents and offers her a chance to run a startup in Barcelona, leaving her at a crossroads.

Leticia, while teaching, has her attention caught by the new coach, Orlando, and a turn of events only stirs her feelings further. A baseball unexpectedly shatters her focus, but the connection deepens when she mistakenly believes a poem from a student is from Orlando. In a moment of boldness, she makes a spectacular entrance onto the field, surprising him with a kiss, only to discover her embarrassing mistake later.

Martin, finding joy in his time with Hortensia, takes on the role of a caring father figure as he impresses April’s friends with elaborate lunches. However, Maribel’s relationship with Andy turns rocky after she expresses the need for personal space, leading her to confide in Martin, who insists on her obedience under his roof. This new living arrangement takes a toll, leaving both young adults unsure of their future.

Tragedy strikes when Gomez collapses from a taste test at the restaurant and later passes away in the hospital. His sudden death leaves a profound impact on the family, drawing them closer together in their shared grief.

Leticia finds unexpected love with Orlando, culminating in a spontaneous Vegas wedding, which adds a twist to her previously strict beliefs.

As the story unfolds, Martin surprises everyone with his own bold announcement - he asks for the hand of Hortonisia’s daughter in marriage, revealing that his true affection lies with Yolanda, leaving everyone shocked.

In the backdrop, Carmen grapples with her relationship with Jeff, who, unbeknownst to her, is already moving on with Rachel. As she prepares for her departure to Barcelona, she ultimately reassesses what she truly wants and the importance of family.

The film culminates with Carmen taking charge of a restaurant in a familial atmosphere and ends with a joyful surprise from Yolanda, as she shares the news of her pregnancy, symbolizing a hopeful future for the family.
