As the adventurous Chris Bradley (Raymond Laine) meanders through the vibrant city, his life unfolds as a rich tapestry interwoven with passions – strumming his guitar, performing with various bands in New York City, and finding creative ways to make a living. However, upon returning to Pittsburgh, the steel city that formed his roots, Chris is compelled to face the stark reality of his existence. His father’s earnest requests for him to abandon his free-spirited lifestyle in favor of a stable position at the family-owned baby food factory go unheard, as Chris steadfastly resists trading in his cherished freedom for security.

Chris’s journey leads him to the captivating Lynn (Judith Ridley), a stunning model and actress who enchants the locals with her engaging commercials. With his innate charm, Chris successfully ingratiates himself into Lynn’s life, who soon invites him to share her home. What begins as a blissful relationship gradually morphs into a complex dynamic, as Lynn becomes increasingly frustrated with Chris’s carefree attitude. In her desire for stability, she encourages him to seek a steady job, and for a fleeting moment, it seems Chris may have finally discovered a sense of direction.

However, when Lynn reveals she is expecting, her concerns about Chris’s irresponsibility propel her to make an agonizing choice to end the pregnancy without Chris’s knowledge. While Chris secures a position at a small advertising agency, he grapples with promoting U.S. Army enlistments, a reality that starkly contrasts with his own military background.
