Trust (2021) Plot Summary & Ending Explained

In the vibrant streets of New York City, we follow the story of Brooke Gatwick and Owen Shore, a young married couple who have maintained their relationship since high school. They are currently facing challenges in their quest to start a family, alongside Brooke's ambition to open her very own art gallery, showcasing works by the talented Ansgar Doyle. However, Ansgar's persistent attempts to connect with Brooke under the cover of night begin to irk Owen, throwing a wrench in their already strained relationship.

Unbeknownst to Brooke, Owen secretly purchases airplane tickets for a romantic getaway to Paris after the gallery's grand opening, convinced that a break away will help them reconnect and ideally conceive. However, Brooke's focus is solely on her exhibition. Things take a turn when she stumbles upon suspicious text messages on Owen's phone, leading her to suspect he might be unfaithful.

Lauren finally escapes the claustrophobic boiler room after a desperate scramble with a metal rod, a cracked pipe flooding the space and a loose wire threatening electrocution. In the chaos, the door gives way, crushing the men who had been hunting her. One of them, the private‑security head Kroft, collapses beneath the wreckage and, before he can recover, is shot dead by Loretta – the stray‑dog rescuer who has been tracking Georgie and has now stumbled into the cabin’s blood‑stained mess.

The police arrive moments later, piecing together the night’s carnage from the bodies, the broken door and the hidden cameras that Marcus, the Airbnb manager, had installed. Their investigation quickly reveals that Kroft had been hired by Peter Johnson, Lauren’s on‑screen father and former lover, to silence her before the scandal of her pregnancy could explode. With the murder of Kroft witnessed and recorded, Peter’s connection to the hit is exposed; his reputation collapses, the sitcom is cancelled and he is taken into custody.
