The Silence

In 1938, during the Japanese occupation, Ju-ran, a sickly young girl, is transferred to a sanatorium turned girls' boarding school to improve her health. The move marks the beginning of her journey toward recovery as she hopes to regain her strength.

As Ju-ran settles into the boarding school, she befriends another girl named Yeon-deok. Their bond becomes pivotal as Yeon-deok helps bolster Ju-ran's strength and emotional well-being, essential for her recovery.

Ju-ran begins to notice that students are vanishing without a trace, raising alarm bells in her mind. The sense of dread grows as her concerns are dismissed by the school authorities, who insist everything is normal.

Ju-ran witnesses classmates in distress, experiencing severe seizures and bleeding episodes. This strange behavior further reinforces her concerns about the sinister happenings within the school's walls.

After confronting her classmate Yuka about the mysterious events, Ju-ran loses control in a fit of rage and nearly strangles her. This alarming incident reveals Ju-ran's newfound strength and highlights her internal struggles.

Determined to uncover the truth, Ju-ran and Yeon-deok decide to investigate the headmistress's office. Their curiosity leads them to eavesdrop on a heated argument between the headmistress and a Japanese soldier about vanished students.

While snooping through the office, Ju-ran and Yeon-deok find an experiment proposal written in Japanese. The document reveals that the school is involved in unethical testing aiming to develop performance-enhancing drugs on the girls.

The girls discover footage of themselves undergoing experiments, which showcases the drug's effects. Shocked and horrified, they realize that they are being used as test subjects for the Imperial Japanese Army's enhancement program.

In the midst of chaos caused by their discoveries, the two girls hear a commotion leading to Yuka's attempted suicide. This tragic event solidifies the dangerous atmosphere in the school, prompting Ju-ran and Yeon-deok to escape.

While attempting to flee into the forest, Ju-ran and Yeon-deok inadvertently stumble upon a large Japanese military base. The girls are quickly captured by a commander, which spells greater trouble ahead.

The Japanese commander informs the headmistress that he will now oversee the experiments. This shift indicates a more severe escalation in the plight of the girls as the headmistress loses control over their fate.

Ju-ran and other girls are tranquilized and administered a newer, more potent form of the drug, alongside warnings of violent side effects. This moment marks a turning point in their horrifying transformation.

Yeon-deok discovers a room filled with tanks holding preserved bodies of the disappeared girls. When she is discovered and submerged, it sets off a series of events that catalyzes a violent confrontation.

Awakening from her drugged state, Ju-ran goes on a fierce rampage, killing the Japanese soldiers. Her transformation into a fight for survival not only highlights her strength but also the desperation of the girls.

In a brutal clash, Ju-ran and the other girls gruesomely kill the doctor and confront the principal. Ultimately, Ju-ran is mortally wounded, losing her friend Yeon-deok, and in her sorrow, she takes vengeance on the principal.
