Tod and Copper chase a cricket as the county fair rolls into town. They are drawn to a bus labeled 'The Singin' Strays' and the dogs' singing sounds lure Copper. After Copper's clumsy tracking disappoints Amos Slade again, he is tied up in the yard while Slade and Chief head to the fair, and Tod frees him so they can go together.

The band has five members: Dixie, Cash, Granny Rose, Waylon, and Floyd. Dixie walks off after an argument with Cash, forcing them to perform without her. Copper sings along during the show, and Cash invites him to join the group after Tod lies that Copper is a stray; Copper spends the rest of the day with Cash, forgetting about fireworks Tod promised.

Dixie learns Copper is not a stray and hatches a plan to get him kicked out of the band.
