Crysta, a gentle fairy from Ferngully, takes on the care of three adorable baby animals and begins to demonstrate a remarkable ability to influence and control nature. Alongside her is Pips, a curious and lively creature, and together they engage in a friendly contest to see who can cultivate the most impressive plant. During this time, Pips reveals a desire to explore the outside world beyond their lush forest home, sparking a sense of adventure.
Suddenly, chaos erupts when Batty Koda, a frantic and eccentric character, arrives with urgent news — human poachers are hot on his trail. His frantic warning sets off a series of dramatic events. The poachers, accompanied by their dogs, quickly capture the three baby animals, threatening to harm them. An initial rescue attempt takes place within Ferngully, but it fails disastrously, resulting in a massive forest fire that destroys a significant part of the woodland and leaves Mother Kangaroo visibly scarred and distressed.
Determined to save their friends, Pips and the Beetle Boys decide to follow the poachers into town, convinced that the key to rescue lies beyond their forest. Batty, despite his fears, agrees to guide them. Their journey leads them to a bustling town amusement park, where the young animals and fairies are utterly fascinated by the rides and sights, momentarily distracted from their mission. Recognizing their obligation, Batty encourages them to refocus on their goal.
Throughout this adventure, the fairies are also busy healing the wounded rainforest and its inhabitants. During their journey, Crysta stumbles upon one of the dog’s traps and finds Boof, the poachers’ dog, abandoned and injured. She cares for him and takes him along to the town, hoping to reunite him with his pack.
Meanwhile, Pips makes the acquaintance of a girl named Budgie, a talented but somewhat insecure performer practicing her clown act. She is deeply engrossed in her routines, dreaming of performing perfectly. Pips introduces himself and his friends, and they find refuge in her trailer. Budgie shares her struggles with self-confidence, revealing that she has been working on her clown act for years but has never truly felt successful. Pips offers her encouragement, telling her to just relax and do her best.
Back at the rescue site, the frightened baby animals grow increasingly anxious about ever returning home. Batty, overcoming his own fears, manages to reassure them, giving them hope. At the same time, the poachers mobilize to load the captive animals into cages onto a large truck. As chaos mounts, Budgie wins a stuffed kangaroo at a contest stand, a small but meaningful token that reminds Pips of the babies they are trying to save.
The climax unfolds as the group reaches an abandoned warehouse where the poachers plan to ship the animals away. Budgie, determined and brave, jumps from a ledge onto the truck, risking everything to free her friends. Driving past her grandfather, she manages to cling onto the truck’s tarp, and he instinctively gives chase. With remarkable courage, Budgie slips inside the vehicle and begins freeing the other caged animals. As the poachers realize what’s happening, they become furious. One poacher attempts to remove her from the truck, leading to a tense struggle. Despite falling onto a cliff’s edge, Budgie is caught by Batty, who heroically lifts her to safety. Her grandfather then arrives in his net, rescuing them all.
The group then races in a comically chaotic clown car to the ship where the remaining animals are being loaded. Pips cleverly undoes the conveyor’s latch, causing the cages to tumble into Budgie’s grandfather’s car, creating an exciting rescue scene. During the ensuing struggle, the poachers fight back, but the combined efforts of Crysta, Batty, and the fairies turn the tide. Boof, the poachers’ dog, defects to their side, helping to bring the mission to a successful close.
The poachers’ boat attempts to escape, but the fairies cast their magic to prevent it from reaching the open sea, even transforming the vessel into a gigantic tree. In the chaos, Nugget nearly drowns but manages to escape. With the animals safe once more, Budgie and her grandfather decide to adopt Slasher and Boof, giving them loving homes. In the end, all the animals and fairies return home to Ferngully, a landscape healed and restored, celebrating their victory and renewed hope for their enchanted rainforest.
