The Fountain

Tommy Creo, a dedicated research oncologist, is motivated to find a cure for his wife's brain tumor. His love for Izzi drives him to push the boundaries of medical research, which leads him to experiments on rhesus monkeys.

During his experiments, Tommy encounters significant setbacks, particularly with a monkey named Donovan. After a risky decision to use a novel compound from a rare Guatemalan tree, he witnesses Donovan's remarkable recovery, showcasing the potential of his research.

Izzi reveals a stunning golden nebula to Tommy, referring to it as Xibalba, the Mayan underworld. She shares her ongoing project, a book about the conquistadors titled 'The Fountain', which captures Tommy's attention and imagination.

Tommy wakes up to find Izzi has left for a museum to discuss the Mayan creation myth. Tragedy strikes when she collapses due to a seizure, leading to an urgent hospital visit where she candidly shares her acceptance of death with Tommy.
