Sara Price receives troubling news from the Japanese police about her twin sister, Jess. Authorities believe Jess has likely died after being seen entering Aokigahara, a forest infamous for its association with suicide.

Despite her fiancé Rob's concerns, Sara decides to travel to Japan to find out the truth about her sister's fate. This decision marks the beginning of her harrowing journey to uncover the secrets hidden within Aokigahara.

Upon arriving at the hotel where Jess last stayed, Sara meets Aiden, a fellow American journalist. They share a drink and bond over their personal tragedies, including the loss of Sara’s parents in a drunk driving accident.

Sara, Aiden, and park guide Michi venture into Aokigahara in search of Jess. Michi grimly suggests that Jess may have taken her own life, casting a dark shadow over their expedition.

As night falls, the trio discovers a yellow tent that Sara recognizes as belonging to Jess. Despite Michi's suggestion to leave a note and leave, Sara resolutely insists on waiting for her sister, showcasing her determination.

During the night, Sara hears rustling sounds that lead her to chase after what she believes might be Jess. Instead, she encounters a mysterious young girl named Hochiko, who warns her against trusting Aiden before disappearing.

The following day brings disorientation and anxiety for Sara as she demands Aiden’s phone. Discovering a disturbing picture of Jess, she feels betrayed and flees into the forest, haunted by unsettling voices.

In her frantic escape, Sara stumbles upon a horrifying hanging body that sends her into a panicked flight. She falls into an underground cave, where she briefly loses consciousness, deepening the mysteries surrounding her.

Sara awakens back in the cave to face Hochiko, who has transformed into a menacing spirit. Fleeing deeper into the forest, she encounters Aiden, who helps her out but raises further suspicions in Sara's mind.

Aiden leads Sara to an abandoned ranger station, where she hears what she believes to be Jess’s voice from the basement. Discovering a note that implies Aiden is hiding Jess, the tension escalates between them.

In a frenzied altercation fueled by fear and mistrust, Sara fatally stabs Aiden with a kitchen knife. It dawns on her too late that her perceptions were distorted by hallucinations, marking a tragic turning point.

Sara experiences a vision of the tragic night when her parents died, revealing that their father was behind a murder-suicide. This haunting realization leads to a surge of terror as her father's ghost confronts her.

Desperate for survival, Sara manages to flee her father's spirit but realizes that her hallucinations have manifested into self-inflicted harm. The psychological terror she faces intensifies as her reality shatters.

In her last moments, Sara is engulfed by confusion as she believes she sees Jess being rescued. However, the poignant truth strikes her that her escape is an illusion, and she is actually bleeding out in the basement.

As the search party departs with a rescued Jess, Michi senses Sara's spirit lingering between realms. This haunting omen signifies that her dark fate has been irrevocably sealed, concluding her tragic journey.
