Spring Fever

Picking up just a day after the chilling events of the first Cabin Fever film, Paul, portrayed by Rider Strong, wakes up in a creek that has become tainted with bloody water. He finds himself tragically infected by a sinister flesh-dissolving virus that leaves him covered in ghastly sores and boils. As Paul’s condition worsens, he stumbles through the forest, battling the excruciating effects of the disease as his skin begins to deteriorate. Eventually, he limps onto a highway, where a bus full of unsuspecting high school students strikes him, leaving his body an unrecognizable horror.

Deputy Winston, played by Giuseppe Andrews, arrives at the crime scene to investigate, misleading the bus driver by claiming he struck a moose instead of revealing the gruesome truth. Troubled by what he discovers, including an ominous foot in a shoe hanging from a tree, he drives away, only to receive a frantic call from the sheriff urging him to return to town due to the presence of “government guys” demanding answers.

The plot thickens with an intriguing animated sequence that reveals the creek Paul’s body was dumped into is linked to a bottled-water company. In a grim twist, the contaminated water from the creek is bottled and delivered to the very high school attended by the students on the bus. At the school, the lunch lady unwittingly serves this infected water to the students. John, portrayed by Noah Segan, a senior grappling with a prom dilemma over which of his crush, Cassie, played by Alexi Wasser, he should attend with, finds his night spiraling into chaos. His overweight friend, Alex, played by Rusty Kelley, initially reluctant, is encouraged by a romantic encounter with a classmate, Liz, portrayed by Regan Deal.

Tragedy strikes in the small town as the infection begins to spread like wildfire. At a diner, Winston witnesses a worker from the bottled-water company convulsing and sucking blood, revealing the dire consequences of contaminated water. Realizing the horror of the situation, he rushes to alert officials at the water plant, only to find himself caught in a deadly encounter with CCD (Contamination Control Division) soldiers who arrive in Army trucks to enforce a town-wide quarantine and eliminate anyone at risk of spreading the vicious virus.

As the high school prom approaches, panic escalates among students. Rick, a popular student, shuns his girlfriend Sandy, portrayed by Lindsey Axelsson, and initally seduces the overweight Fredricka, played by Amanda Jelks, after a bet with friends. Complicating matters, Fredricka inadvertently creates a punch for the prom using the tainted water. When they attempt to indulge in intimacy in the pool, Fredricka succumbs to the infection. Chaos ensues as Rick tries to save her, leading to their tragic fates.

During prom, as tensions rise, Alex discovers he’s also been infected, leading to a panic-fueled search for an exit as the CCD soldiers enforce strict lockdown measures. Among the chaos, John finds Cassie and ultimately confesses his love just as soldiers force them back inside. When they learn of the horrifying state of the gym, where students fall victim to the gas and gunfire of the CCD soldiers, the urgency escalates.

Amid the turmoil, Winston and his cousin Herman, played by Mark Borchardt, attempt to flee but find their plans thwarted at a police roadblock, leading them to take desperate measures to escape the impending doom. Meanwhile, Cassie and John, driven by survival instinct, face unimaginable choices as they confront the gruesome reality of being infected themselves and resort to drastic measures to cut off the spread of the disease.

As the film nears its conclusion, the chilling effects of the infection touch not just the current victims but also extend into the future. The aftermath shows Liz at her workplace as a stripper, unknowingly continuing to spread the infection, which begins seeping into the world at an alarming rate. Meanwhile, after the credits, a moment of dark humor ensues when John’s friends, observing the impacts of the pandemic, remark grimly, “prom blows.”

This horrifying sequel encapsulates the relentless spread of a nightmare that not only affects those in the small town but hints at a larger epidemic on the horizon, leaving audiences on the edge of their seats as they confront the dark consequences of a night meant to celebrate young love and joy.
