Rokuheita Narumi, director of the Saho Art Museum in Nara, is passionate about oriental art. His wife Noriko stays in Tokyo, so the couple lives apart. Feeling isolated, Noriko drifts into the city’s decadent nightlife and keeps a loveless affair with doctor Katsumori. When Narumi learns of the affair during a Tokyo visit, he refuses divorce for their child’s sake and immerses himself in his museum work.
