At the allotment, Christian reconciles with Xenia, and the two engage in sex. Afterward, Xenia goes to the bathroom where Leonora calmly, methodically stabs her to death. Suspicious, the cops deploy dogs to comb the surrounding area. During a Sankt Hans celebration, Christian encourages his friend Kim to light the bonfire early, a pivotal moment that could expose their ruse. As the dogs arrive and begin to bark near the bonfire, the commissioner realizes they may have hidden Xenia’s body in the blaze. In a tense, final twist, Christian stokes the flames before the authorities can intervene, watching with Leonora as the fire consumes what remains of Xenia.
