The movie begins with a quiet gas station where the slack-jawed attendant is suddenly attacked by a rabid creature. The horrific event sends his body into grotesque contortions, marking the start of the chaos about to unfold.

Seth Belzer and Polly Watt set off for a romantic camping adventure in the heart of Oklahoma’s forests. What begins as an idyllic escape quickly spirals into terror after they fall victim to a car-jacking.

The couple's journey is abruptly interrupted when they are car-jacked by escaped convict Dennis Farell and his drug-addled girlfriend, Lacey Belisle. This incident sets the stage for the harrowing events that follow.

As they travel, misfortune strikes when Seth and Polly accidentally run over an infected animal, leading to a flat tire. This event forces them to seek refuge at the now-deserted gas station.

Upon arriving at the gas station, Lacey discovers the attendant writhing in distress in the bathroom. A horrifying attack follows, resulting in her grisly demise, but her body reanimates, becoming an immediate threat.

As Lacey's corpse reanimates, Seth, Polly, and Dennis fight for survival against the terrifying creature. The trio soon realizes that severed remains of infected victims exhibit a life of their own.

Sheriff Terry Frankel attempts to intervene but tragically meets his end when he is brutally torn in half by Lacey's reanimated body. In a shocking turn, the creature merges with the sheriff's upper half, becoming a new, formidable threat.

Seeking temporary safety, the trio hides in a walk-in refrigerator. However, their respite is short-lived as they are attacked by a piece of the infected creature's severed arm, a chilling reminder of the relentless nature of the infection.

It becomes clear that Dennis has also been infected after his encounter with the splintered beast. In a desperate attempt to save him, Seth and Polly perform a painful amputation on Dennis's infected arm.

Through their harrowing experiences, Seth learns that the creatures are fungal parasites controlling reanimated corpses. This new knowledge helps them devise a plan using body temperature to slip past the creature.

Seth tries to use the police car parked outside but realizes that, without the keys, it is useless. In a moment of bravery, Dennis decides to lure the creature away, sacrificing himself for Seth’s escape.

As chaos erupts, Dennis and Polly narrowly escape the creature's wrath while hiding in a freezer. The tension escalates as the terrifying creature continues its relentless pursuit.

The climax arrives when discarded fireworks ignite a flammable trail, causing the gas station to explode. In a final act of heroism, Dennis detonates propane tanks, sacrificing himself to eradicate the infected corpses.

With the explosion, Seth and Polly manage to escape the inferno just in time. However, the film ends with a haunting revelation that other dormant infected creatures lie in wait in the woods, hinting at an impending threat.
