The film opens with a tense scene at a remote digging site in Africa, where a man and a woman discover a brutal slaughter among the workers. Amid the chaos, the woman finds a small monkey statue and, as they rush to escape, she pockets the artifact, sensing it might be important. The tension sticks with you as the pair flee into the night, the statue tucked away but already beginning to feel heavy with what lies ahead.
In Salem, Oregon, a security guard Kelvin Clayton named Hamadi arrives at The House of Fears with his loyal guard dog. The atmosphere inside the haunted attraction is thick with anticipation and danger. Hamadi senses something ominous about the monkey statue he finds in a box, a warning in the air he can’t quite explain. Before he can leave, his dog sinks its teeth into him, leaving a chilling impression of the terror that haunts this place.
Back at home, Corri English plays Samantha, who has just moved in with her step-sister, Hailey, Sandra McCoy, after their mother remarries. The sisters’ uneasy dynamic quickly comes to the fore when Hailey drags Samantha to a party, then punishes her for being quiet and awkward about her new stepdad. At the party, Hailey and her circle—Carter, Corey Sevier; Zane, Eliot Schwartz; Devon, Michael J. Pagan; and Candice, Alice Greczyn—slip away to get a first-hand look at The House of Fears before it officially opens. Samantha is invited along, and though she’s wary, she agrees to join.
As dusk settles, Zane assumes the lead, flipping on the house’s power to bring it to life. The group explores the maze of rooms as Zane tries to keep Candice from breaking off with Devon, while Hailey shoots sly jabs at Samantha about family and the past. The group learns about each other’s fears: Zane’s fear of knives, Candice’s dread of suffocation, and Hailey’s claustrophobia. Zane, determined to score with Candice, swaps dates with Carter, aggravating Hailey but giving the night a sharper edge. The tension spikes when Zane sneaks away and dons a miner’s suit, eventually reappearing to scare them. A living mannequin, a grim trap, and the chaotic thrill of the haunted house turn deadly when Zane is brutally killed by the revived prop.
Hailey and Carter’s rift grows as they move through the mummy’s tomb, where a faulty prop injures Candice and the group discovers Zane’s lifeless body. Their phones die, their exit route is cut off, and the house’s labyrinthine layout traps them inside. They press on, arming themselves with whatever they can find—guns and a circular saw—because the boxy corridors now feel more like a tomb than a game. They stumble into an Insane Asylum-like section that heightens the dread, and they encounter Hamadi again, this time in hiding, frightened and pleading for help. He warns them that the statue will summon their inner fears to life, a warning that Samantha recalls as a chilling déjà vu.
The group is soon stalked by a menacing scarecrow that seems to spring from the shadows, followed by a grave-digger who appears at random to pull one of them into darkness. Samantha confesses her fear of scarecrows, while Hailey fights to protect her sister. Carter meets a grisly end when he is electrocuted during a desperate confrontation with the scarecrow, and Devon is snatched by a sly, lurid clown amid the House of Mirrors, their screams echoing through the maze. The survivors push onward, seeking a way out as panic tightens its grip.
Hailey and Samantha finally find themselves cornered in a space that feels more like a prison than a passageway. The grave-keeper closes in, dragging Hailey away and leaving Samantha to improvise a rescue. After a harrowing pursuit, Samantha defeats the grave-keeper and frees Hailey, two sisters reunited under pressure they never imagined. Yet the horror intensifies as the scarecrow returns, and Samantha’s courage is tested to the limit when the statue’s power seems to revitalize every fear they faced, turning the environment itself against them.
With time running out, the duo confronts the living nightmare as the final chase erupts in a violent crescendo. They manage to sever the scarecrow’s grip by cutting off its arm with the circular saw, but the weapon breaks mid-action. In a last desperate bid for escape, Samantha fights through the clutch of fear and breaks the monkey statue, an act that seemingly ends the immediate threat and unlocks their exit from The House of Fears. They stumble into the night, the air cool and the street lights flickering, as the statue on the floor trembles and shudders—still alive in some way, somehow ready to reassemble itself for another night of terror.
