Solo: A Star Wars Story

In this thrilling second installment of the Star Wars stand-alone saga, the story begins with the iconic phrase: “A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away…” Set during the chaotic early years of the First Galactic Empire, the galaxy is rife with lawlessness, leaving crime syndicates to thrive amid the ruins of the fallen Galactic Republic. On the industrial world of Corellia, the formidable Lady Proxima, voiced by Linda Hunt, leads the dangerous White Worms gang and is on the hunt for a precious hyperfuel known as coaxium. Amid this turmoil, Han (Alden Ehrenreich) desperately seeks an escape from Corellia.

Together with his girlfriend, Qi’ra (Emilia Clarke), they devise a plan to flee after Han manages to acquire some coaxium. However, their escape attempt is thwarted by Proxima’s henchmen, and they are captured. Utilizing quick thinking, Han cleverly pretends to use a thermal detonator, creating sunlight that causes Proxima’s gang to retreat. A narrow escape ensues, but the couple soon finds themselves cornered, and in the chaos, Han manages to flee while Qi’ra is left behind. Separated by a barrier, Han vows to return for her.

Fast forward three years, and Han is now a soldier amid the brutal conditions on the foggy planet Mimban, having been expelled from the Imperial Flight Academy due to insubordination. During a deadly battle, he encounters a group of thieves posing as Imperial troops: Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson), his partner Val (Thandie Newton), and the alien Rio Durant, voiced by Jon Favreau. Han, wanting to join their ranks, is initially rebuffed by Beckett. In a twist of fate, he is betrayed by Beckett, leading him to a deadly pit where he comes face-to-face with the fierce Wookiee, Chewbacca (Joonas Suotamo). To survive, the two forge a partnership and help each other escape from captivity.

As the group gears up for their risky heist on the snow-covered planet Vandor, Han learns they aim to steal coaxium from a train. Despite a fierce ambush by the Cloud Riders, their mission meets disaster: important crew members fall, and Han even fails to retrieve the coaxium, causing him turmoil and conflict with Beckett. With dire consequences looming, Han offers to assist Beckett in a new quest to secure more coaxium, leading them to the crime lord Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany).

At Dryden’s lavish party, Han reunites with Qi’ra, who has been entangled in Vos’s underworld for some time. Together, they concoct a dangerous plan to extract unrefined coaxium from the perilous mines on Kessel, a mission teeming with risks as they contend with unstable materials and the ominous threat of imperial forces.

To fly to Kessel, they need a ship, which leads them to Lando Calrissian (Donald Glover), where Han engages in a high-stakes game of Sabaac. Though Han is outmaneuvered by Lando’s sleight-of-hand, Lando decides to join the mission, drawn by the lucrative prospects. They enlist L3-37, Lando’s fiercely independent droid, who is deeply invested in advancing droid rights.

Upon arrival at Kessel, chaos breaks out as L3 instigates a droid rebellion, and amid their fight for survival, Chewbacca rescues captured Wookiees. However, the operation falters, leading to the death of L3 and dire confrontations with both imperial forces and dangerous wildlife. Han executes an audacious maneuver, making the infamous Kessel Run in just 12 parsecs—a feat previously deemed impossible.

As tensions escalate on the planet Savareen, a showdown with the Cloud Riders, led by the fierce Enfys Nest (Erin Kellyman), challenges Han’s loyalty and objectives. With a clever twist, Han outsmarts Beckett, but tragedy ensues as Qi’ra reveals her allegiance to a higher authority, leaving Han heartbroken.

In the end, Han cleverly claims the Millennium Falcon from Lando after a rematch of Sabaac, solidifying his destiny as a legendary smuggler. With Chewbacca at his side, the two set their sights on Tatooine, embarking on a new chapter that promises further adventures and complications. Their story is just beginning in a galaxy that never stops spinning with danger and intrigue.
