In 2012, a virulent pandemic emerges, transforming humans into rabid creatures known as 'ferals'. This catastrophic event forces families, including Abigail's, to prepare for evacuation and survival.

As Abigail, her mother, and brother prepare to leave, they are ambushed by a feral. The attack leads to her mother and brother becoming infected and turning into ferals, forcing Abigail to flee for her life.

After escaping the attack, Abigail is rescued by Cassius, a police officer who adopts her. Together, they retreat into the wilderness, relying on hunting and foraging to survive while evading the feral threats.

Over the next ten years, Abigail grows up under Cassius’s protection in the wilderness. The bond between them strengthens as they face continual dangers from ferals and adapt to their harsh reality.

Abigail and Cassius devise a plan to escape to an island off the American east coast, aiming for safety. Their journey begins as they prepare to face the dangers along the way.

During their escape, they come across a group of armed survivors. However, the situation escalates into violence when a pack of ferals attacks, resulting in the death of most of the survivors.

In the chaos, Cassius kills the mate of the feral pack's alpha, igniting a relentless pursuit. The stakes rise as they now face the wrath of the alpha and his pack on their journey.

The group eventually reaches an abandoned city where Abigail's father had stored a private plane. They stay the night, but the arrival of the feral pack forces them to hastily repair the aircraft.

After taking off from the airport, the group thinks they've escaped, but the plane's engine fails, causing them to crash land. This unexpected setback leaves them vulnerable and desperate.

They encounter Norton, an engineer, who initially offers shelter. However, he reveals his twisted ideology about the pandemic and drugs them, leading to his capture of the group as David's condition worsens.

With their backs against the wall, David breaks free and battles Norton's feral wife. This bravery aids Abigail, Cassius, and Megan in escaping from Norton’s clutches in his land rover.

As Megan goes into labor during their escape, the group faces another challenge. They must now navigate through the forest, ultimately suffering another loss when David sacrifices himself to save them.

The remaining group finally arrives at a colony called King's Harbor, where they find temporary refuge. However, tragedy strikes as Megan dies after giving birth, leaving Cassius to care for the newborn.

Norton finds the colony and unleashes the ferals within. Abigail and Cassius scramble to organize an evacuation while confronting the threat that Norton has brought upon them.

In a climactic showdown, Cassius destroys Norton's sonic gauntlet, enabling the ferals to attack Norton. Abigail confronts the alpha, who reveals himself to be her father, leading to a fierce battle for survival.
