Short Circuit (2022) Spoiler-Free Summary – What It's About

In a bustling metropolis where the clatter of traffic and the hum of industry blend into an endless soundtrack, a diligent sound engineer picks up a lone, puzzling vibration that refuses to be ignored. That mysterious noise becomes the catalyst for a journey that fuses curiosity with invention, hinting at possibilities far beyond the ordinary rhythm of city life.

Enter Benjamin Jahrvi, a resourceful former robotics employee who decides to chart his own course by founding a modest venture that crafts sophisticated toy robots out of spare parts and sheer ingenuity. Operating from the back of a battered truck, he turns every street corner into a makeshift showroom, his passion for creation shining through each handcrafted marvel. When Fred Ritter, a charismatic yet unconventional entrepreneur, hears about Ben’s ambitions, he sees a chance for partnership and quickly becomes embroiled in the fledgling enterprise, offering the kind of street‑wise savvy that complements Ben’s technical brilliance.

Among Ben’s creations is Johnny 5, a sentient robot that burst to life after a stray bolt of lightning. More than a product, Johnny embodies the film’s playful blend of heart and circuitry, roaming the city with childlike wonder while displaying an uncanny knack for problem‑solving. His presence adds a layer of humor and tenderness, inviting viewers to glimpse the world through the eyes of a machine eager to experience life.

The venture’s momentum gathers when Sandy Banatoni, a sharp‑tongued buyer for a major toy department, discovers Ben’s unique robots and envisions a massive order that could catapult the humble operation into the spotlight. As alliances form and ambitions rise, the story balances witty banter, inventive tech, and the timeless quest for belonging, offering a light‑hearted yet heartfelt portrait of creativity sparking amid the urban din.
