Danny, a wealthy, recently divorced man, wanders into the Power 4 Life gym in Austin on a whim and consults with Trevor, the owner, about a fitness regime. Trevor, Kevin Corrigan, reluctantly assigns Kat, one of his personal trainers, to work with Danny. Kat, Cobie Smulders, is well-liked by her clients but can be temperamental; her relationship with Trevor is complicated by their sexual history. Trevor brings Danny on as an investor in a new location for Power 4 Life, signaling a formal step forward in their evolving professional bond. An encounter with a client causes Kat to rethink her life, ultimately leading her to quit her trainer job, and her attempt to rekindle things with Trevor is met with a cooling response. Trevor shifts gears and begins training Danny himself at a different gym, and the two grow into friends.

Trevor then reveals his past relationship with Kat to Danny, admitting that he once loved her. In the days that follow, Danny talks with Kat and Trevor, and they all encourage him not to give up on love. Kat and Trevor end up sharing a night of passion, but Kat remains cautious about the future of their relationship. Trevor confesses his love for Kat, and she answers in kind. The trio ends up hopeful about what lies ahead, sharing a quiet sense of possibility for their complicated, interwoven lives. On Kat’s suggestion, Danny throws a party for his friends and the women from a local sorority, inviting them to a night of celebration and connection, a gesture that caps off a period of personal and professional exploration for all involved.
