In the opening night of fear, a young boy slips out of his home at midnight to relieve himself, hears leaves whispering in the dark, and his face contorts with horror as a piercing scream rips through the quiet. A few days later, the project crew — led by veteran Kannada filmmaker Kashinath and producer N.B. Jayaprakash — sets out to shoot a new film at Onti Mane Estate, a remote, dreaded place that locals avoid. The crew stumbles through troubled paths and misadventures as they reach the estate, where they meet its owner, Nagaraj Rao, and his daughter Bharathi, whose playful pranks on the director and the lead actor spark a curious spark in the film’s main star, Kumar Govind. Kumar is instantly drawn to Bharathi’s lively, outgoing charm, and a wary enchantment begins to thread through the making of the movie.

As shooting continues, the air thickens with inexplicable happenings: the demon ghost costume smoking in the dead of night, and a hooded figure seen leaving Rao’s house. When Kumar attempts to trail the intruder, he is grabbed by the mysterious figure and carried up to the top of a crumbling hill where a dilapidated house sits like a wound on the landscape. The fear spills over into a police inquiry, led by a tired SI Kalappa and his perpetually drowsy constable, who take the case seriously but struggle to make sense of the supernatural atmosphere that grips the estate. Soon enough, the truth about the hooded figure begins to surface: Rao’s wife is linked to the mystery, and the brother-in-law’s schemes unravel as the story reveals her affair with a local sanyasi, Dayananda Swamiji. That same night, she sneaks out again to meet her lover, the demon trails her, and the sanyasi is assaulted by the demon—a kidnapping that ends with Rao’s wife being dragged back to the dilapidated house.

With family members vanishing one by one, Nagaraj Rao is left desperate and distraught. Yet Krishna, Rao’s son, and Bharathi remain comparatively unfazed, a contrast that compounds the tension in the estate. A sharp accusation lands on Kashinath, with a top cop insisting the director is behind the murders, only for the truth to surface later: the “director” is simply an aspiring actor trying to make his mark. As the film crew endures tragedy after tragedy — the assistant director is found murdered, and the demon’s acts escalate into a genuine haunting — Kumar and the aging director race to make sense of the killings, uncovering trenches and holes scattered across the property that hint at a deeper plot than a haunting alone.

Krishna is murdered in a brutal blow, and Kashinath discovers a golden token of Lord Hanuman, an artifact he believes might unlock the mystery. Yet when he sees that same token in Kumar’s possession, doubt blooms about Kumar’s involvement in the murders. One night, Kumar escorts Bharathi into the forest and leaves her momentarily, only for the demon to launch an attack. Kumar dives into the fight and saves Bharathi, but the demon escapes at the sight of Kashinath. The quest for the artifact copy intensifies, and Kashinath realizes that Nagaraj Rao himself is at the center of the plot. They rush to Rao’s house to find him hanging, a suicide note on his lips. The family’s maid then reveals a brutal truth: Rao’s wife and her brother manipulated him to murder his friend Ramappa so they could seize a stash of golden artifacts; they found a pot of treasure but never the treasure itself.

Following this confession, Kumar and Kashinath press on. A burned man clutching a corpse and a doctor from the neighboring estate explains the history behind the tragedies: Ramappa’s surviving son, traumatized by the fire, roams the estate in a disturbed state, believing he can reunite with a wife who is long gone. The doctor adds that Ramappa’s other son is part of the film crew, a revelation that leaves Kumar reeling as the demon strikes again and knocks the doctor unconscious. The doctor’s revelations expose the production manager’s deeper guilt, and the production funds’ whispers of crime grow louder with suspicion.

In a chilling culmination, the demon and his brother commit suicide by drinking cyanide in front of the doctor. Kumar awakens to the burnt-out house and finds the two dead at last. The doctor confirms that the demon was Srikanta, the production manager, who had faked his own death, with his brother acting as an accomplice in the murders of Rao’s family. Kashinath, Bharathi, and the others hurry to the site, where Bharathi’s safety is secured just as the superintendent ends the threat posed by Srikantha.

The story closes with a sense of restrained relief as Kashinath offers a final blessing for a hopeful future: a peaceful married life for Kumar Govind and Bharathi, who depart the estate after wrapping the shoot, carrying with them the quiet knowledge that some hauntings end when the truth is laid bare and justice finds its place.
