V seevalaperi’ Pandi, a courageous and noble-hearted man, is married to Velammal and lives peacefully with his mother, Venniradai Moorthy, and his elder brother Malayandi. His life takes a turn when the village leader, Grams, Vijayachander, recognizing Pandi’s remarkable strength and integrity, hires him as his personal bodyguard. Grams is generally a kind person; however, his flawed judgments have led to the suffering and downfall of many villagers, which causes discontent among the locals.
A group of villagers—Nayanar, Sivankalai, Karuppaiah, Mookaiah, and Oochandi—initially oppose Grams due to the injustices they believe he has caused. United in their dissatisfaction, they conspire with Pandi to eliminate Grams. In a tense and violent confrontation, Pandi and his allies succeed in killing Grams, but they immediately surrender to the authorities afterward. During the trial, the court acquits Pandi’s accomplices, who are set free, but Pandi himself is sentenced to death. As he awaits his execution, his friends and family promise to support his loved ones and assist them in his absence.
However, at the last moment, fate intervenes, and Pandi receives a reprieve, converting his death sentence into life imprisonment. While serving time in jail, he holds onto hope that his friends have fulfilled their promises to help his family. Tragically, his wife and brother later reveal the heartbreaking truth: their mother passed away from starvation, and Nayanar did not offer any help or support despite his assurances. Instead, Nayanar and others mistreated Pandi’s family, adding to their suffering and shame.
Driven by a fierce desire for justice and revenge, Pandi manages to escape from prison one night. His primary target becomes those who betrayed him and his family—his former associates. Nayanar, now aware of Pandi’s escape, deceitfully convinces Pandi that his brother and wife are better off without him, turning him against his own family. After Pandi leaves, Nayanar quickly reports his escape to the police, turning him into a hunted fugitive.
In his pursuit of vengeance, Pandi begins to steal from wealthy landowners and corrupt individuals who have gained their riches unjustly. His actions help him become a kind of local hero, admired by many for fighting against injustice and supporting the impoverished. This newfound reputation alarms the police, prompting the authorities to assign a special sub-inspector to capture him. Undercover, the police attempt to infiltrate the village and arrest Pandi, but the villagers, loyal to him, refuse to betray his whereabouts.
With his alias Konar, Pandi starts aiding another village head, Ravi, Nizhalgal Ravi, unaware that Ravi is himself a good man. Tensions rise when Pandi and his wife have a serious fight, leading him to consider surrendering himself to the law. Yet, before he can do so, the police catch him in the act.
At the police station, high-ranking officials plot to silence Pandi permanently, believing that turning him into a victim will prevent public sympathy from interfering with justice. They plan to execute him secretly, escorting him to a secluded location with the intention of shooting him—an act that would be hidden from the community and free them from any political or social repercussions. The sub-inspector, aware of the officials’ malicious plans, warns Pandi, who, in a display of unwavering principles, refuses to escape. His belief in equality and justice remains firm, and his final words serve as a powerful message:
“Treat all men equally and remove caste-based differences.”
Throughout his journey of revenge and redemption, Pandi embodies courage, resilience, and a deep sense of justice—values that define his life and legacy. His story is a stark reminder of the fight against injustice and the importance of standing up for what is right, even at great personal risk.
