What Happens in Scare Package: Full Plot Summary

The whole story of Scare Package (2020) explained, from the opening scene to the final frame: every key event, every twist and what it all adds up to. Read it as a quick recap before the sequel, to check a scene you missed, or to finally understand what really happened.

Jessie, having narrowly escaped from the clutches of the Devil's Lake Impaler, finds herself at the funeral of the beloved video store owner and horror enthusiast, Rad Chad Buckley, who met his demise in a related tragedy. Among the mourners are Jessie's mother, Ms. Kapowski, her friend Kimmie, Chad's twin brother Bo Buckley, his accountant Rick, college roommate Dwight, undertaker Moira, actor Kirk, his bodyguard Bert, and a mysterious woman named Claire.

As they gather to pay their respects, the solemn atmosphere is shattered when the group is knocked unconscious by gas after viewing an eerie video featuring Chad. Upon regaining consciousness, they realize with horror that Claire is spewing acidic vomit, which gruesomely destroys Rick's arm. In a macabre twist of fate, Ms. Kapowski's own regurgitation kills Claire, while Kirk and Bert accidentally turn on each other in chaos.

Determined to unravel the terrifying circumstances of their predicament, they surmise that they are trapped in a malevolently orchestrated escape room filled with perilous puzzles. Dwight manages to win a beer pong challenge, yet their victory is short-lived as they are gassed once more, awakening in chains.

Rick postulates that Sam Brown, an avid customer who once kept Chad's business thriving, could be behind their captor's sadistic game. The theory is confirmed when Sam appears in a wheelchair, announcing that he intends to punish them for their lack of respect towards Chad and the horror genre, employing horror tropes as instruments of torture.

Their ordeal escalates when they wake up wearing homemade beekeeper masks, trapped while bees begin to emerge ominously. Tragically, Bo succumbs to the chaos, and Moira's allergic reaction leads to her gruesome demise. Determined to survive, Jessie discovers keys that unlock their masks, allowing them to beat back the threat temporarily, but they are soon gassed once again.

Sam places Ms. Kapowski in a position of dread, leading to Dwight being skinned alive. In a grim twist, she secures a key only to meet a gruesome fate via invisible razor wire. Following yet another gas attack, the surviving group finds themselves in a nightmare recreation of Chad's video store, where the Devil's Lake Impaler is unleashed, attacking the group. Jessie valiantly retaliates, throwing a blade into Sam's eye, but the terror isn’t over.

As the body count rises, Jessie, Kimmie, and Dwight make their escape, only to awaken in what appears to be the funeral parlor once more. To their shock, Chad rises from his coffin, revealing deep secrets as Kimmie discloses her romantic connection with him, unraveling a conspiracy that includes fabricating his death. As they process this betrayal, Chad and Kimmie seal Jessie's and Dwight's fate, leaving them within the confines of a warehouse as they make their escape with the nefarious factors influencing their doom.

The film interweaves various narratives, from a masked killer stalking a sorority house to the challenges of survival itself, while the chilling atmosphere evokes both horror and dark comedy as characters confront the absurdity of their situations, underscoring the importance of appreciating the tropes that make horror so thrilling.
