Steve Sperg, Peter Stanovich, is a self-absorbed film student who recounts to his girlfriend Madigan Amy Shelton-White the long history of Slaughter Studios. As a child he adored the horror movies once made there, and twenty years ago the studio shut down after an actor named Justin Kirkpatric Matt Westmore was accidentally killed during a shoot. The mood of nostalgia quickly darkens into a bold plan: use the abandoned studio for one last horror project, a feature that must be shot in a single nine-hour window, with the bizarre script titled Naughty Sex Kittens vs. the Giant Praying Mantis. Steve pitches the idea to Madigan and a handful of fellow students, and the cast begins to take shape, including Trish and other aspiring performers who hope to seize their moment in the spotlight. Steve even chooses a young actor to play the monster, Kevin, while Madigan, though eager to act, is relegated to production duties.

That night, Steve and Madigan step into the studio to meet the assembled troupe: Portia, Rebecca, Darlene, Candace, and Chad Daniels Darren Keefe Reiher who is cast as the leading man, with Ollie in the sound booth and Gary handling the camera. Steve lays out the precarious logistics—security rounds happen hourly—and the group breaks into the derelict soundstage, unintentionally disturbing a homeless man who lingers nearby. Chad proves to be a terrible fit for the role, so Steve sends him off to a secluded room to practice, only to be stalked and killed by a shadowy intruder who weapons the moment with a pickax.

With Chad dead, Steve pivots, casting Olie Anand Chulani as the lead. He also pushes the bounds of the fake-sex scene, coaxing Darlene Darlene and Rebecca Rebecca into a real, on-screen encounter that draws them into a kiss and then into tragedy as they are murdered while returning from a shower. The tension in the studio escalates as Steve’s stress climbs and Madigan’s opportunity to act remains unrealized until a shortage of actors forces a change. Madigan finally lands a part, and she and Kevin Nicolas Read grow closer, their chemistry punctuating the chaos around them.

Meanwhile, Candace [Lorissa McComas] disappears while searching for the ghost of Justin Kirkpatric, reflecting her obsession with the past. Trish [Eva Frajko] is strangled in a chilling moment, a death later revealed to have been captured by a hidden video camera, turning the studio into a narrative swamp where truth and film blur. Madigan discovers the clandestine camera, suspecting it was placed in the dressing room, only to learn that the footage belongs to Olie [Anand Chulani], who hoped to sell it to an online site for quick money. Olie tries to leave, but a chase with the security guard pulls him back into the chaos.

As the crew crowds around a TV to review the footage, they stumble upon Trish’s death and realize someone is systematically eliminating anyone who disappears. Gary, Kevin, and Madigan debate leaving, but Steve, driven by his need to complete the movie, stubbornly stays. Olie eventually uncovers the bodies of Rebecca and Darlene and is slain by the killer with a spike to the head, while Portia, dazed from heavy medication, wakes and confronts Kevin, desperate for a sexual encounter that never materializes and leads her to wander off.

Gary is decapitated in a brutal moment, and Steve staggers back to the sound stage, only to be crushed by a falling piece of equipment. The remaining duo, Kevin and Madigan, escape the killer in a car but discover the security guard was not the true threat; he is the same actor who inadvertently killed Justin Kirkpatric twenty years earlier. It becomes clear that the killer is still inside the studio, and Portia is still somewhere in the maze of rooms.

Back on the set, Portia’s search ends in a brutal impalement, and the killer finally steps out of the shadows: the homeless man Christopher Dalton who was frightened away earlier. He is joined by the ghost of Justin Kirkpatric, who shares his sentiment about the intrusion into a man’s house.

It ain’t right to fuck with a man’s house.
