Rover Dangerfield

Rover Dangerfield, a pampered Basset Hound in Las Vegas, accidentally disrupts a meeting between Connie's boyfriend Rocky and two gangsters by dropping a bone into the room. The chaos causes the criminals to flee and Rocky to realize the situation is blown. The boss blames the intrusion on a stupid dog, setting the tone for Rover's dangerous life ahead.

Connie leaves Las Vegas to tour for two weeks, leaving Rover in Rocky's care. In retaliation, Rocky stuffs Rover into a bag, drives toward Hoover Dam, and throws him into the water. He hopes the prank will ruin Rover's life and silence him.

The bag surfaces and is pulled from the water by passing fishermen. They take Rover back to shore and place him in the back of their pickup truck. Rover regains consciousness and later escapes during a stop.

Rover wanders into the countryside and is taken in by Cal and his son Danny. Cal agrees to keep him on one condition: if Rover causes trouble, he will be sent to an animal shelter. Rover struggles at first, but with the help of Daisy and the other dogs, he earns their trust.

Rover starts to settle into farm life, learning from the dogs and Daisy. He spends Christmas with the family and begins to fall in love with Daisy.

A pack of wolves attacks the farm as they try to hunt the turkey. Rover saves the turkey, but the bird dies from the shock. Cal mistakenly believes Rover caused the death and decides to shoot him the next morning.

The wolves attack again, and Rover fights them off. He rallies the other farm dogs to help get the injured Cal back home. Rover's bravery earns him a place as a farm hero.

Rover's heroics become front-page news, drawing Connie to the farm. She travels to the farm to pick up Rover and bring him back to Las Vegas. Rover is excited to see Connie but begins to miss life on the farm.

Connie brings Rover back to Las Vegas after retrieving him from the farm. In Connie's dressing room, Rocky confesses what he did to Rover. Connie breaks up with Rocky, ending their partnership. The revelation heightens the tension and sets up Rocky's retaliation.

Infuriated, Rocky tries to retaliate, and Rover and friends chase him out of the casino. They corner him in a gangster's limo where the Big Boss hints at a setup and Hoover Dam, and the vehicle drives away with Rover waving goodbye.

Feeling despondent over missing Daisy, Rover is taken back to Cal's farm to stay. Connie decides that Rover's place is with Cal and Danny, not back in the city. Rover begins to adjust again to life on the farm.

Daisy leads Rover to the barn, where Rover discovers he is now a father of six puppies. Five resemble Rover, and one resembles Daisy, signaling a new era for the farm.

Rover teaches his pups how to play cards and enjoys carefree play with Daisy around the farmyard. He finds happiness in his growing family and the life he built on the farm.
