Rites of Passage

The film opens with two escaped convicts, Frank Dabbo and Red Tenney, approaching a group of campers and bringing a sudden, brutal end to their quiet afternoon. The chilling act sets a tense mood that will thread through the rest of the story. As the body count rises, the criminal threat shifts from the woods to a lakeside cabin, where a family tries to navigate its own fractured bonds.

D.J. Farraday learns that his father, Del Farraday, has been involved in an affair, a revelation that destabilizes the Farraday clan. Eager to confront the truth, D.J. invites Del to the family cabin by the lake, hoping for some honest reckoning. When they arrive, they find Del’s younger son, Camp Campbell “Cam” Farraday, already there, a situation that will complicate the evening greatly. It’s soon revealed that Del uncovered Cam in a private moment with his boyfriend, Billy, and Del’s brutal reaction left deep scar tissue between him and Cam. Del’s harsh actions also cast a long shadow over the father’s relationship with D.J., who senses a chance for reconciliation but is haunted by the past.

As night falls, the two escaped convicts reappear at the cabin, requesting a phone call under the pretense that their car has broken down.
