Fisk’s story takes a dark turn four years prior, when he dealt with the case of Charles Randall, a man who walked free after murdering his girlfriend’s daughter. As Fisk narrates, he wrestles with his principles as he and his partner, the chess player, witness Randall being led away in cuffs, stating that he “lost his freedom for a crime he didn’t commit.” This moment shatters Fisk’s faith, leading to a series of questionable moral decisions.

The scene shifts to a woman, Karen Corelli, captured in a moment of peril as she returns home, only to be ambushed by an unseen assailant. Moments later, we see Fisk, referred to as “Turk,” in bed with Karen, a playful exchange hinting at a complicated romantic relationship. As Turk and his partner delve deeper into the city’s seedy underbelly, they find themselves entwined in a world of drugs and deception. They stake out a club owned by Marcus Smith, also known as Spider, suspected of money laundering.

An encounter in the men’s washroom leads to an unexpected meeting with a young woman who introduces drugs into their discussion, only for Turk to flash his badge in response, revealing the duality of his life in law enforcement.

As a new murder mystery unfolds, Turk’s past actions raise questions as he is drawn into a tense investigation involving a string of killings justified by cryptic poems left at the crime scenes. The partners find themselves caught in a web of deception and violence, where Turk proudly claims his role as a “safety valve” for the corrupt.
