Bonin and his friend Vézina patrol the rural Quebec countryside, blasting the infected with shotguns. They joke about doctors and keep their spirits up even as danger looms. The outbreak's scale is hinted by the silent, decaying landscape around them.

While scouting, Vézina is lured into the trees, surrounded by the infected. The encounter ends with him overwhelmed and killed, raising the sense that danger is closing in. Bonin continues on, now briefly without his partner.

Céline drives alone, killing infected with a machete as she moves. She eventually encounters two elderly women, Thérèse and Pauline, who demand she strip to test for bites and then take her in when she is deemed clean. The moment marks a fragile, uneasy refuge amid the chaos.

Pauline is bitten and shot by Thérèse as the infection swells around them. Réal, already bitten, turns and bites Ti-Cul, who is then killed by Céline to prevent turning. The cabin becomes a crucible where loyalty is tested and lives are extinguished.

Thérèse stays behind to allow Bonin to escape with Zoé, and she is killed in the process. Her sacrifice underscores the moral toll of the outbreak and the desperation to preserve a future for the youngest survivor. The rest of the group breaks under the pressure as the infected overrun the area.

Bonin leads the infected away as Céline hacks at the swarm. Zoé is hidden in a tunnel by Tania, who tells the girl she is the strongest. Tania then vanishes into the chaos, leaving Zoé with a fragile chance at survival.

Zoé emerges from the tunnel and continues toward Route 113, determined to find safety. On the road, she is picked up by a survivor in a racecar, a nod to the film's opening, suggesting a cyclical return to some form of normalcy despite the catastrophe.

In a final post-credits image, Bonin and Tania stand zombified in front of a tall tower of stacked chairs, topped by a parrot. The scene leaves their fates ambiguous, implying the infection continues beyond the main timeline. The visual reinforces the film's bleak, cyclical mood.
