Ranganathan is a young man who lost his sister Laksmi in childhood and has come to the city in search of work that matches his graduation. There, he meets Raju, a thief, and their chance encounter sparks a clash of visions: Ranganathan urges Raju to abandon crime and live honorably, while Raju nudges him toward a darker path. After their paths diverge, each man embraces the other’s advice—Raju turns over a new leaf, and Ranganathan becomes a hit man for hire.
Laksmi is now married to a wealthy man and has a child named Suresh. Raju, who has reformed, encounters Suresh and steps in to protect him from a local thug. Grateful for the help, Laksmi decides to keep Raju on as a guardian to safeguard Suresh from danger.
Ranganathan has taken a contract from Ganga to collect money from the local gang leader Ravi. Ravi, however, invites him to join his gang, an offer Ranganathan declines, insisting he does not work for any gang but is willing to do anything for the right amount of money.
Ranganathan’s first assignment with Ravi is to kidnap Suresh to pressure his parents for a payoff. The kidnapping is thwarted when Raju intervenes to save the child. Raju does not realize that the man who attempted the abduction is the very teammate he once mentored, since Ranganathan had been in disguise. When the two men finally meet, Raju expresses joy at the reunion and explains that he acts as a guardian for Suresh. He also introduces Laksmi to Ranganathan. Not knowing that Ranganathan is her brother and a hired killer, she agrees to welcome him as another guardian for Suresh.
Ranganathan then reveals his true nature to Raju, confessing that he sought to kidnap Suresh. Raju counsels him to renounce crime and stay loyal to Laksmi. Yet Ranganathan remains resolved to complete his task, and he challenges Raju to drive him away. Although the plan proceeds, Ravi betrays him by revealing that Laksmi is his sister. Ranganathan is captured by Ravi’s thugs, but Raju comes to his rescue. Ravi ends up in jail, and Ranganathan is reunited with his sister. In this new understanding, he, Ganga, and Raju all lead a hopeful, shared life.
