Months later, Thor is engaged to Prentice, and Grant Goads him into defending Thor’s honor. A confrontation outside the dance erupts, and Prentice pursues Jeb; a gunfight forces Jeb to kill Prentice in self-defense. Jake Dingle warns Jeb that danger is coming.

Thor and Mrs. Callum hatch a plan to murder Jeb on their wedding night, but Thor cannot bring herself to go through with it and reconciles with him. The plan exposes the fractures within the Callum family and the costs of revenge. The staged forgiveness is a brittle peace.
