Linda Hanson and her husband Jim Hanson are a married couple with two daughters, Megan and Bridgette, but their relationship has grown distant. After she listens to his phone message while he’s away on a business trip, Sheriff Reilly arrives with shocking news: Jim has died in a car accident the day prior. Linda’s mother Joanne comes to help, and Linda falls asleep in the living room, only to awaken to a morning where Jim seems to be downstairs. A troubling sequence unfolds as Linda gets pulled over by the sheriff—who doesn’t recognize her—and she discovers an empty bottle of lithium prescribed by Dr. Norman Roth. She attends Jim’s wake and later finds Bridgette with facial cuts, a sign that something is seriously off.

The following day brings further turmoil: Jim is somehow both dead and present in the world, and at his funeral the casket is opened in a tense moment only to reveal Jim’s head rolling away. At the burial, Linda notices an unfamiliar woman who escapes when approached. She tracks down Dr. Roth’s number, only to learn that his office operates on weekdays, and Roth later suggests to Sheriff Reilly that Linda murdered Jim and scarred Bridgette’s face. The next morning Linda wakes up beside Jim in the shower, and after taking the girls to school she discovers the lithium bottle missing. When she visits Roth, he does not recognize her, so he prescribes lithium after she tries to explain her premonitions.

Linda’s path crosses with the enigmatic Claire Francis, a stranger from the funeral, when she visits Jim’s office and spies a tense, charged interaction between Jim and Claire. Back at home, Linda moments later dumps the lithium down the sink. A catastrophe deepens the fear: Bridgette crashes through a glass door during a storm, suffering severe cuts to her face and hands. Jim blames Linda for this disaster, while Linda begins to suspect that her days are not unfolding in order.

Realizing that time is looping, Linda creates a calendar of events and labels Tuesday as the current day. She pleads with Jim not to travel on his upcoming business trip and asks him to wake her on Wednesday. Her mother helps adjust the calendar, and Linda learns that Jim updated an insurance policy just days before, tripling the benefits. She visits their priest and the funeral home, and when she returns home she wonders aloud if letting Jim die is the same as killing him. Her mother’s blunt reply—“Jim is already dead”—drives home the gravity of what she’s experiencing.

Seeking answers, Linda visits Claire Francis and hears about her almost-affair with Jim, which Claire confirms in a later confession. Linda then learns that the priest has spoken about similar cases where people have premonitions, urging her to have faith. A crucial visit to mile marker 220—the site of Jim’s accident—offers Linda a chance to understand what might have happened. She urges Jim to tell their daughters that he loves them, and in the rain, she confronts him about their failing relationship, hoping to keep them from being torn apart by time.

When Wednesday arrives, Jim’s bank visit and a call to Claire at a hotel reveal the same initial sequence from the beginning. Linda reaches him by cell phone as he closes the deal, and the couple tries to alter the course of fate. She begs him to change course, but a fuel-tanker truck jackknifes on the road, tearing off the car’s roof and exploding. Both drivers lose their lives in the crash, and the couple’s struggle seems to end in tragedy.

Months later, Linda reflects on the priest’s counsel about faith, and she reveals that she is pregnant. The film closes with this new hope amid the mystery of how time has altered their story, leaving Linda to navigate a future shaped by unknown forces and the fragile thread of life she has come to cherish.
