Throughout the film, subtle clues hint at this twist, such as Camille’s meticulous collection of newspaper clippings about her family’s murder and her vague conversations about a man she despises. These clues are reinforced by Duncan’s flashbacks and the fact that Camille had been quietly following the same money trail leading to her family’s killers, revealing her true motive from the beginning.

In a tense confrontation, Camille finally reveals the truth, holding a gun to Duncan’s head—she intends to kill him as revenge for her family’s murder. Yet, Duncan, haunted by his past and understanding her pain, accepts his fate and chooses not to fight. Instead, Camille does something unexpected—she teams up with Duncan to track down the real killers who ordered the hit, seeking justice for her family. None of this would be possible without Duncan’s unintentional slip-up, which was caused by his attempt to help Camille—paying off her education and inadvertently exposing himself to her wrath. Throughout the story, it’s clear that Duncan’s efforts to do good and protect Camille ultimately fueled her desire for revenge and brought her to him.

The film concludes with Duncan and Camille starting a new chapter, not as assassin and victim, but as allies driven by shared pain and a quest for justice. Duncan’s wish for a quiet life is finally fulfilled, with the haunting memories still lingering but no longer defining him. The ending leaves open the potential for a sequel, where their story could expand, exploring Camille’s pursuit of her victims and Duncan’s continued path of redemption—if the filmmakers decide to continue. Despite the bloodshed, there’s a sense of hope that, through understanding and vengeance, these two damaged souls can find some measure of peace.
