Om Shanti Om

Omi Makhija, a junior artist in Mumbai, dreams of becoming a renowned actor while living with his widowed mother Bela and friend Pappu Master in a cramped chawl. He idolizes the glamorous Shantipriya and talks about the film world as if it were within reach. These early days plant the seed of a fate that will entwine his life with theirs.

Omi and Pappu attend Shanti's premiere in disguise, creating a memorable first impression on the star they both admire. The cheeky caper confirms Omi's desire to be noticed by the film world. Shanti's presence marks the first real spark between Omi and the life he yearns for.

After the premiere, Omi gives a heartfelt, drunken acceptance speech to Pappu and local children, pretending to have won an award. Shanti witnesses his passion and begins to see the stubborn, hopeful actor inside him. This awkward moment seeds a budding bond between them.

Omi and Pappu land minor roles at RC Studios, owned by the egotistical producer Mukesh Mehra who also helped launch Shanti's career. A shoot brings Omi into proximity with Shanti, who treats him with warmth despite his insecurity. The volatile studio atmosphere sparks ambition, envy, and a shared dream.

During a shoot, Shanti becomes trapped in a fire but Omi risks everything to pull her to safety. They become friends, and Omi openly pretends to be a Tamil film star to impress her before confessing the truth. With Pappu's help, they share a memorable studio date that strengthens their bond.

Omi overhears a heated argument revealing that Shanti and Mukesh are secretly married. Shanti tells him she is pregnant with Mukesh's child, which shatters his world and leads him to withdraw from her. The romance is eclipsed by real-world entanglements and ambition.

Mukesh takes Shanti to the planned future set of Om Shanti Om and reveals his plan to kill her and their unborn child to protect his career. He locks her inside as the set catches fire, prompting Omi to try a rescue. The attempt ends in violence and tragedy as the set burns with Shanti inside.

Omi is struck by the car of actor Rajesh Kapoor after the disaster and is taken to the hospital. He dies from his injuries there, and Rajesh and his wife Lovely welcome a baby boy named Om Kapoor, who will carry the legacy forward. The night seals a painful transition from Omi's life to a new generation.

Thirty years pass and Om Kapoor, now known as O.K., becomes a successful yet arrogant film star with pyrophobia. Bela continues to believe he is her son, while Pappu, now older, tries to explain the truth, but Bela remains unconvinced.

On the abandoned RC Studios lot, O.K. experiences vivid flashbacks of Omi's desperate attempts to rescue Shanti and even recites his drunken Filmfare speech. Pappu and Anwar realize that O.K. has reincarnated from Omi, bridging the two lifetimes.

To fulfill the plan to expose Mukesh, O.K. resumes filming Om Shanti Om and hires Sandhya Sandy Bansal, a devoted fan who exactly resembles Shanti. Pappu and Bela train Sandy to behave like Shanti, while O.K. keeps his true plan hidden for now.

At the film's inauguration and a masquerade ball, Mukesh is pressed for proof but rebuffs the hints. Sandy accidentally exposes herself as not a ghost, while a deeper revelation unfolds: Mukesh had buried Shanti alive, and the evidence will convict him. In the finale, O.K. overcomes his pyrophobia, Mukesh is crushed by a falling chandelier, and Shanti's real ghost appears, guiding Om to a bittersweet ending as he reunites with Sandy.
