Nagarathil Samsara Vishayam

Gopinath and Samson chose to keep the cash because they believed no one would ever find out. Both are struggling, Gopinath is unemployed and dreaming of becoming a film star, while Samson works at a failing film distribution company. The sudden windfall of 40 lakh rupees seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to escape their financial struggles. However, this decision immediately puts them in danger as goons and later hawala agents hunt them down.

When Gopinath and Samson retrieve the sack of money with Susan's help, they discover it contains Pappi's dead body instead of cash. The swap occurred when the box was originally swapped at the rural cinema hall, the goons searching for the money had already recovered it and placed it in another sack, but somehow the dead body of Pappi (the cinema's projector operator) ended up in its place. The exact mechanics of how Pappi died and when the body was substituted remain part of the movie's darker twists.

Susan stabbed the hotel manager because he attempted to rape her. The manager took advantage of her vulnerable position as a singer at the five-star hotel and tried to assault her. In a desperate act of self-defense, Susan grabbed a knife and stabbed him. This violent escalation forces her to join Gopinath and Samson on the run, deepening the trio's entanglement in criminal danger.

Vikraman is an underground hawala agent who operates in the criminal underworld. The 40 lakh rupees in the box belongs to him, it is hawala money, an informal money transfer system often used for illegal transactions. When the box was accidentally swapped, Vikraman lost his funds and immediately begins hunting for it. He is a much more dangerous threat than the initial goons because he operates through organized crime networks and eventually enlists his nephew Sundareshan to lead the professional search operation.

During their first trip to a rural cinema hall representing Akamsha Films, Gopinath and Samson accidentally swapped their film roll box with a box full of currency. The swap happened by pure chance, someone at the cinema hall mistakenly gave them the wrong box, not knowing it contained 40 lakh rupees in cash. This accident sets the entire plot in motion, thrusting two ordinary men into a dangerous game of survival.

Susan joined the fugitives because she had no other choice after stabbing the hotel manager. With the police likely to investigate the assault and her being the prime suspect, staying at the hotel would mean immediate arrest. Additionally, she was already complicit in helping them retrieve the money bag, making her a target as well. She also decides to carry Pappi's dead body with them, which further binds her fate to theirs.

Akamsha Films is a struggling film distribution company run by Pappi and Krishnankutty. Gopinath joins as Samson's assistant to pursue his dream of becoming a film star while earning some income. Despite his family's opposition to the job (and to his relationship with his cousin Saritha), Gopinath sees the film industry as his ticket to fame and financial stability. The job unexpectedly leads him into the money chaos.

Gopinath and Saritha are cousins, and their families strongly oppose the match because marrying within the family was traditionally frowned upon in Kerala society. Even though they love each other, both families refuse to accept the relationship. This romantic subplot adds to Gopinath's motivation to succeed financially, he hopes becoming a film star might eventually change his family's stance or at least provide him with a life independent of their approval.

Sundareshan is Vikraman's nephew whom he recruits to lead the professional search operation for the missing 40 lakh rupees. Unlike the earlier goons who acted on their own, Sundareshan brings organized crime tactics and a more systematic approach to finding the box. His involvement marks a significant escalation in the threat level, as he represents a coordinated, professional pursuit that makes it much harder for the protagonists to stay ahead of their pursuers.

The film balances comedy and thriller elements through the protagonists' incompetence and the absurd situations they find themselves in. Gopinath and Samson are not hardened criminals, they are ordinary men thrown into extraordinary circumstances through pure accident. Their panicked reactions, failed escape attempts, and the ridiculous twist of swapping money for a corpse create dark humor against the backdrop of real danger. The comedy prevents the film from becoming too heavy despite its criminal subject matter.
